Democrats: Good news from Iraq "a real problem for us"

These people are a menace, they want us to lose. They are so power hungry that our victory is bad news for them. This is treason.
(FOX News) Democratic House Whip James Clyburn says a positive report from Iraq forces commander General David Petraeus to Congress in September would be — "a real problem for us."

Clyburn tells The Washington Post that an upbeat assessment of the war from Petraeus would likely split House Democrats — making their goal of forcing a timetable to end the war impossible. Clyburn says Petraeus' words will carry significant weight among the 47 Blue Dog Caucus members — and without their support — a timetable is probably out of reach.

Clyburn is advising other Democratic leaders to wait until Petraeus' report before making their next move in their battle with the president over the future of U.S. troops in the region.

Harry Potter "a billion-dollar Zionist project"

And as a member of the International Zionist Web I can confirm that it is true.
(FOX News) An Iranian newspaper with strong ties to the ruling mullahs and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is blasting the government's role in the release of the latest Harry Potter book. The Kayhahn newspaper criticizes the Iranian culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry for approving distribution of the latest Potter project.

The paper says the series is — "a billion-dollar Zionist project." It says the books were designed to "disrupt young minds."

Argentina joins the ranks of offended and insulted

MEXICO CITY - A U.S. plan to expand fences along the Mexican border to stem illegal immigration is an insult to all Latin Americans, Argentine President Nestor Kirchner said Tuesday during a visit to Mexico.

"It's not just an insult to our sister nation of Mexico, but to all the nations of Latin America and all the nations of the world," the leftist president said to the applause of Mexican lawmakers.
That's right - crossing the US border illegally is an inalienable right of all Latin Americans, not just Mexicans.

"I think they act like they are not human beings"

GHAZNI, Afghanistan (AP) - Police discovered the body of a second South Korean hostage in central Afghanistan, and the Taliban threatened Tuesday to kill more captives if their demands were not met by a new deadline. [...]

Shim's body was found on the side of the road at daybreak Tuesday in the village of Arizo Kalley in Andar District, about 5 miles west of Ghazni city, said Abdul Rahim Deciwal, the chief administrator in the area.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene said the man appeared to have a gunshot wound to the right temple.

Shim, who had recently left his job to prepare for graduate school, had previously visited the Philippines for five days as a volunteer worker and also had served as an army officer.

His father, Shim Jin-pyo, told reporters earlier Tuesday that he wondered how the Taliban "could perpetrate this horrible thing."

"I think they act like they are not human beings," he said. [...]

Christian Group Warns U.S. Against Pressuring Israel on Peace Deal

(FOX News) "I don't believe Israel should give up any piece of their land. I think they've given up too much of their land," said Michelle Stephens, one of 50 million Evangelicals who are said to be "waking up" to the idea that Israel's existence is integrally tied to their own religious outlook.

"Would somebody else, another country, coming in to America say, 'You need to give up Florida'? I live in Southern California, 'You need to give up San Diego to Mexico.' That's not going to happen. Why should we do that with Israel?" Stephens asked.

Stephens, 37, traveled with her husband cross-country to Washington, D.C., last week to join nearly 5,000 like-minded Evangelicals attending a conference called Christians United for Israel. Pastor Greg Stephens, who leads Father's House Church in El Cajon, Calif., said the group isn't interested in telling Israel what to do, but it sure has got some choice words for President Bush and Congress.

"Our personal position: don't give away a square inch. ... The Israeli government is a sovereign nation and what they choose to do concerning land for peace, they have the right to do. ... They are a sovereign nation we respect that," he said. On the other hand, as far as the U.S. Congress is concerned, "I will pressure my congressman. (If) my congressman is encouraging it, I am telling him, 'It's your last term.' My guys, oh, I am on my guys."

Russia downgrades ties with Hamas

Another Wakseh for Hamas.
MOSCOW, Russia (Reuters) -- Russia said on Tuesday it had downgraded its ties with the Hamas Islamist group, in a show of support for visiting Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. [...]

"Recently, we have somewhat downgraded the level of contacts with Hamas. Now we are pursuing a pragmatic goal of trying to influence them directly and indirectly to resume national unity," First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov told reporters after Putin and Abbas met in the Kremlin.

Asked if there would be any high-level meetings with Hamas in the near future, Denisov said: "No such meetings are being planned."

CAIR celebrates the arrest in Quran desecration case

NEW YORK, July 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today applauded the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) Hate Crimes Task Force for working to charge a Brooklyn resident who allegedly desecrated Qurans, Islam's revealed text, at Manhattan's Pace University.

"We commend the NYPD for its appropriate handling of this case," said CAIR-NY Civil Rights Coordinator Aliya Latif. "We must all be concerned when any actions cross the line from protected free speech to acts designed to intimidate. Just as there is a difference between someone burning a cross in their own backyard and burning that same cross in the yard of an African-American family, there is a difference between desecrating a religious text in a private setting and doing so in a setting that will create a hostile learning environment."

She said that one of the desecrated Qurans was reportedly taken from Pace's interfaith meditation room.

Since October, five hate incidents targeting the Muslim community have been documented on the Pace campus, including the words "F--- Islam" written in a hallway. Muslim students have even reported to CAIR-NY that they transferred out of the university because of the hostile atmosphere created by these incidents.
Gee, I wonder what might have triggered all that? Could it be that it may have something to do with the general Muslim attitude towards us infidels?
Latif said CAIR-NY will continue to work with Pace's MSA and the Association of Muslim American Lawyers (AMAL) to promote tolerance on the Pace campus.
Oh, that's mighty nice of them. On that note, I would really like to know how CAIR plans to curb the public intolerance of, for example, vicious and hateful members of the UC Irvine's Muslim Student Assosiation. Or do they consider it a free speech? And if so, how is it different from flushing Quran down the toilet?

Reports: Iran to buy 250 jets from Russia

250 jets is roughly an equivalent of three Carrier Air Wings or a Numbered Air Force of the US military.
I'm sure this purchase has nothing to do with Iran's quest to "wipe Israel off the map".
(JPost) Israel is looking into reports that Russia plans to sell 250 advanced long-range Sukhoi-30 fighter jets to Iran in an unprecedented billion-dollar deal.

According to reports, in addition to the fighter jets, Teheran also plans to purchase a number of aerial fuel tankers that are compatible with the Sukhoi and capable of extending its range by thousands of kilometers. Defense officials said the Sukhoi sale would grant Iran long-range offensive capabilities.

Government officials voiced concern over the reports. They said Russia could be trying to compete with the United States, which announced over the weekend a billion-dollar arms sale to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.

Despite Israeli and US opposition, Russia recently supplied Iran with advanced antiaircraft systems used to protect Teheran's nuclear installations. At the time, Moscow said it reserved the right to sell Iran weapons, such as the antiaircraft system, that were of a defensive nature.

The Sukhoi-30 is a two-seat multi-role fighter jet and bomber capable of operating at significant distances from home base and in poor weather conditions. The aircraft enjoys a wide range of combat capabilities and is used for air patrol, air defense, ground attacks, enemy air defense suppression and air-to-air combat.

After years of negotiations, the Indian Air Force in 1996 purchased 40 Sukhoi-30s and in 2000 acquired the license from the company to manufacture an additional 140 aircrafts.

Another Muslim protest

(England) Muslims in the town of Corby England are up in arms over the proposed plans to build a new pet food factory in the neighbourhood because they fear that pig smells will contaminate them.

Which is strange as the UK is a member of the EU and as such the company has to abide by some of the most stringent emission controls in the world. (Also, the company states that the majority of its pet food is beef and poultry based)

But hey, I’m talking about a country which had the police remove toy porcelain pigs from a window in Leicester because a number of Muslim found them offensive. The same country which saw a toy pig stress reliever banned from an office in Dudley because another Muslim found it offensive. The same country which has seen banks remove piggy banks because they may offend Muslims. The very same country which sees councils rewriting the story of the Three little Pigs into the Three Little Puppies, and the same country which has seen the story of the Three Little Pigs banned from Park Road school in Batley, West Yorkshire because the teacher deemed it offensive to Muslims.

Is there anything the Muslim world isn’t offended by?

Lebanon's Siniora slams hike in U.S. military assistance to Israel

Now, isn't it funny?
(Haaretz) Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora criticized a proposed U.S. arms deal Monday that offers a sharp increase in defense aid to Israel, a rare rebuke against Washington by the Western-backed premier.

A statement issued by Siniora's office said he expressed displeasure, surprise and astonishment when he learned of United States plans to increase military aid to Israel by 25 percent, from $2.4 billion to $3 billion per year, guaranteed for 10 years.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said the increase in military aid would guarantee the country's strategic superiority over its neighbors, irrespective of upgrades to Arab forces in the region.

Also Monday, the U.S. announced a proposed $13 billion military aid package for Egypt along with plans to provide such aid to Saudi Arabia and Gulf states.

This will involve selling Saudi Arabia an estimated $20 billion of sophisticated weaponry, including advanced air systems that would greatly enhance the striking ability of Saudi warplanes.

Jailed Abu Hamza: Stop picking on me!

The hook-handed "poison, ambush and kill non-believers" preacher whines about tough conditions in jail. My heart bleeds for him. No, really.
(London) HATE preacher Abu Hamza has complained of the tough conditions behind bars, it was revealed yesterday.

The cleric, serving seven years for inciting murder of non-Muslims, says he is the victim of a prison bullying campaign.

And he has even complained about the lack of soft furnishings in his cell.

An Islamic group has taken up the hook-handed preacher’s cause and is demanding human rights organisations help him.

Hamza’s “plight” at top security Belmarsh Prison in south-east London was revealed in a letter from his wife, Nagat Mostafa, to the al-Maqreze Centre for Historical Studies.

In her letter written in May, shortly after her husband had surgery to remove an inch of bone from his infected left arm stump, she asked them to do all they could.

The mother of seven of Hamza’s children wrote: “I would like to bring to your attention the current plight of my husband, currently imprisoned in Belmarsh.

“He was taken from his cell without any prior notification to have an operation to amputate a further part of his arm.

“Firstly, I must say that the reason that his arm needed further amputation was because of the removal of his prostheses, resulting in him constantly putting pressure on the remainder of his fore limbs.

“As there is no soft furnishing in his cell, he has been suffering considerable pain and discomfort.

“After surgery, before he had even recovered from the anaesthetic, he was returned to Belmarsh, only to be told he had to move from his cell to another one.

“No post-operative medical care has been given and the only contact he has had is when food is given to him.” Nagat Mostafa, 46, went on: “My husband says that the racist bullying and Islamophobia against him have intensified, making his life very difficult.

“As his wife and mother of his children, I urge you to look into his treatment and do all you can to ensure he is properly treated medically, psychologically and physically.”

The al-Maqreze Centre for Historical Studies has pledged to do all it can. Its leader, Hani Al-Sibai, was accused of praising the 7/7 London bombings. He denied this, saying his comments had been wrongly translated.

Taliban claim to have killed another South Korean hostage

Peace and tolerance strike again.
KABUL (Reuters) - Taliban kidnappers shot dead a male South Korean hostage on Monday, a spokesman said, accusing the Afghan government of not listening to rebel demands for the release of Taliban prisoners.

"We shot dead a male captive because the government did not listen to our demands," spokesman Qari Mohammad Yousuf told Reuters by telephone.

"We killed one of the male hostages at 6.30 this evening (1400 GMT) because the Kabul administration did not listen to our repeated demands," he told Reuters by telephone from an unknown location.

He said the Taliban would kill more hostages if Kabul ignored their demand to release rebel prisoners, but gave no new deadline. He said the body had been dumped by the side of a road.

The shooting was a bloody rejection of the authorities' request for more time for talks on freeing the South Korean hostages after the expiry of a rebel deadline earlier in the day.

The Taliban seized 23 Korean Christians, 18 of them women, 11 days ago from a bus in Ghazni on the main highway south from Kabul and killed the leader of the group on Wednesday after an earlier deadline passed.

Olmert is on the mission to destroy Israel

IsraelNN.com: Olmert ‘Gesture’ Opens Door to 'Right of Return' for Arabs.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s latest “good will gesture” to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has smashed Israel's long-standing policy rejecting the “right of return” for the generations of descendants of Arabs who fled Israel during the 1948 War of Independence.

Olmert decided to allow the immigration into Judea and Samaria of 41 Iraqi descendants of such Arabs who lived in British Mandatory Palestine. All have claimed to have family members living in the PA-controlled areas.

Government officials assured reporters that each of the would-be Arab immigrants would undergo a thorough security check before entering the Jewish State. Officials added that a smaller group of Iraqis who asked to be allowed to join family members living in Gaza was rejected.

Arab countries have long demanded that Israel absorb more than five million Arabs from foreign countries who claim to be descendants of the approximately half a million Arabs who fled during the 1948 war in Israel, when the surrounding Arab countries tried to destroy the nascent Jewish state.

The Arab nations who united to attack Israel encouraged those Arabs to leave, explaining they could return after the expected annihilation of the new state.

Every previous government has rejected the Arab "right of return" demand.

History According to al-Reuters

Basically, it describes Arabs as good and Israelis as bad.
(IsraelNN.com) The Reuters News Agency, in a report on the history of Palestinian Authority (PA)-Israeli negotiations over the past 16 years, totally ignored Arab terrorism but noted the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin. It also commented that the Oslo War, which it called the 'Palestinian uprising," began after "Israeli right-wing opposition leader, Ariel Sharon, visit[ed] Jerusalem's Temple Mount, revered by Muslims."

The account noted the historic handshake between Rabin and Yasser Arafat but entirely skipped over years of suicide bombings and other terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of Israelis.

Reuters also informed its readers of the "pullout of troops and settlers" from Gaza two years ago but did not mention the continuing Kassam rocket attacks on Israel. It also stated that "militants captured" IDF soldier and that Israel then "invaded" Gaza.

Hamas' marketing campaign for Gaza: 'Safe, clean and green'

You simply couldn't make this stuff up even if you tried.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- If you think of the Gaza Strip as a volatile, violent battleground run by fanatic Islamist militants bent on destroying Israel, Hamas wants you to think again.

Think: "Safe, clean and green."

One month after seizing the Gaza Strip in a military rout that shattered brittle Palestinian unity, Hamas is embarking on a radical marketing campaign to promote what it calls "the new face of Gaza."

They call it the "Gaza Riviera."

Hamas banners flutter over Gaza City with a message for aid workers and journalists worried about being kidnapped: "No more threat for our foreign visitors and guests."

Bearded gunmen in blue-gray camouflage uniforms who helped seize control of Gaza now rush to settle routine neighborhood squabbles and family disputes.

The Shaykh, may Allāh be merciful towards him, said in a tape recording regarding this topic:

The apparent [Thāhir] is that it is (permissible) for us to kill their women and children- even if it means that we lose profit/benefit from it [since keeping them alive is a profit/benefit because they become the property of the Muslims]; (and killing them in this situation is permissible) due to it threatening the hearts of the enemies and a humiliation for them.

The female is deadlier than the male

(Nepal) The small fighting men of Nepal are renowned for their ability to fight. For such a small country with an even smaller British army contingent they account for 11 Victoria Crosses. What makes these people even more special is that they are the nicest and friendliest people you could ever meet.

I myself happened to have served alongside 69 Ghurkha Engineer squadron in the Falklands and Belize as well as 7 Ghurkha rifles a few years back. In fact, last week I and a few others were invited to a serving Ghurkha officer’s house for lunch and was taken aback (yet again) by the hospitality displayed by my host.

So, on that note, this story reported in the British Daily Telegraph caught my eye:
Two heavy rocks clasped in her outstretched hands, 19-year-old Tsiring Thapa was shaking with exhaustion. It was only 6.30am, but she and more than 50 other Nepali young women bidding to become the first female Gurkhas had already completed a five-mile run through boulder-strewn mud. "Stay strong! Hold out the rocks, keep your arms out straight! Five minutes more, this pain is nothing if you want to become a soldier," a retired sergeant major barked at them.

"Are you ready to follow my orders? Are you ready to train to become a Gurkha, to become the best?" The women yelled their reply: "Yes, sir."

Long the preserve of only the fittest Nepalese males, securing one of 300 annual commissions to fight as a Gurkha in the British Army is the equivalent of winning the lottery in the Himalayan kingdom.

Now, for the first time, recruitment has been opened to Nepalese women after Derek Twigg, Britain's junior defence minister, announced that Gurkhas would in future be covered by rules on sexual discrimination in the workplace. Up to 50 places are being made available for women this year.
Here. read the rest [...] or look at the Daily Telegraph side show [...].

If these girls are even 1/10th as formidable as their male predecessors then I pity the enemy when they meet.

And these so deceptively called "young Hezbollah supporters" too look no older than 12-14 years old.

So, next time Arabs whine about "civilian casualties", think of these pictures.

The rot in the IDF

The Israeli Defence Force that bulwark of Western values which stands almost alone against the hordes of Islamic oppressors in the Middle East while still a formidable fighting force appears to be having a few problems with its staff. Problems which on the surface appear to arise from a complacency issue.

Take for example the missile attack on the INS Hanit on the 14th of July 2006.

The Sa'ar 5-class corvette while stationed off the Lebanese coast was struck by a surface to surface missile launched by Hezbollah which resulted in the deaths of 4 men. The thing is the ship had the equipment on board which could have neutralised this threat but for some strange reason it was turned off as the officers didn’t perceive a threat during a time of war.
That is complacency.

An incident last week saw the famed Golani brigade leave a soldier sleeping in Gaza as they returned from an operation there. It transpired that during a head count one of his friends answered for him so the troops retired back to Israel leaving a man behind in enemy territory.
That is complacency.

Last week the head of the Israeli Central Command suspended an entire infantry company from active duty in the West Bank because 6 soldiers on patrol decided to steal a taxi then proceeded to shoot 2 innocent men.
That is criminal.

Israel, unlike its neighbours has to live under the microscope of liberal criticism, any act of complacency is used as an example of how weak Israel is, any criminal act is used as an example of how evil Israel is. With friends like these Israel cannot afford to become complacent.

Poverty threatens to force hero out of UK

(England) The failed bombers behind the 21st of July 2005 were 6 Muslim asylum seekers given the right to live in the UK. Abu Hamza, a man who sends his children to a private Muslim school in London while living totally on benefits, hates the people who pay his bills. In fact, it has transpired that half of all terrorist suspects in the UK are Muslim asylum seekers. So, the people who hate the UK and all that it stands for have no loyalty to the country that gives them sanctuary and feeds them.

Now contrast their plight with this man:
“A Gurkha war hero may be forced to leave Britain because he cannot survive on his 'meagre' army pension, despite recently winning a legal battle for the right to stay. Tul Bahadur Pun, 84, was awarded UK residency this month following a public outcry over the government's attempt to prevent him from settling in Britain. He arrived at the beginning of July.

Now the Victoria Cross recipient fears he will be forced to return to Nepal because he and his family are struggling on his annual army pension of £1,584. His lawyer believes he will certainly die if forced to return to Nepal because of the standard of Nepalese medical care. Pun suffered a mild stroke last Sunday and is recovering in hospital. His plight coincides this week with the beginning of the first of 2,000 cases of former Gurkhas, many of them also decorated and conflict veterans, appealing against the government's decision to prevent them from living in Britain.” [...]

It appears that in the UK those who hate our country, those who are willing to kill the people of our country and those who are simply willing to bleed us dry are more welcome than these brave people who have fought for this country, who have become injured for this country and who are willing to die for this country.

Campus 'Holy War' threat growing in the UK

“Up to 48 British universities have been infiltrated by fundamentalists” but “Government guidance, which asks staff to log suspicious behaviour, has been rejected by the University and Colleges Union, which described it as a "witch-hunt".”
(Telegraph) Campuses face more cases of students becoming radicalised by extremist propaganda, a university vice-chancellor has warned.

Professor Mark Cleary, of Bradford University, was speaking as four of his undergraduates were jailed for a total of 11 years last week for glorifying Islamic terrorism.

[...]

The plot by Aitzaz Zafar, Awaab Iqbal, Akbar Butt and Usman Malik to launch a Jihad, or "Holy War" and to persuade others to become "soldiers of Islam", came to light when a schoolboy, Mohammed Ifran Raja, ran away from home in February last year. Raja, from Ilford, Essex, planned to join the students and travel to Pakistan to train as a terrorist. He was sentenced to two years youth detention.

During the trial, it emerged that the first-year students had used campus computer facilities to compile extremist material. Police who raided Iqbal's flat in Bradford found a photo montage that had been edited to include his face among the 9/11 hijackers.

Their extreme views alarmed the university's Islamic Society, when at a meeting, Zafar called for Muslims to kill anyone who dared re-publish Danish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed.

Abu Hamza bullied in prison, says wife

(England) Continuing the trend in the UK in which to play the victim card for convicted Islamic terrorists, the wife (Which one?) of Abu (Don’t throw me that ball) Hamza has complained that "the racist bullying and Islamophobia against him have intensified."

Really? (Should have thought about that before he opened his gob)

I just hope that Abu finds true love inside prison and leaves his bitch behind to become one.

Bosnia: High Representative demands expulsion of Islamic radicals

Sarajevo, 27 July (AKI) - Miroslav Lajcak, the high representative of the international community in Bosnia, has called for the extradition of foreigners with suspected links to Islamic terrorist organizations, including Syrian-born Imad al-Husseini, known as Abu Hamza.

Bosnian daily Nezavisne novine said on Friday that Lajcak, who took office of high representative (OHR) on July 1 warned Bosnian security chief Tarik Sadovic he would be fired if his ministry was too slow in extraditing foreigners, including Abu Hamza, whose citizenships have been revoked.

Thousands of mujahadeen from Islamic countries flocked to Bosnia to fight for local Muslims in 1992-1995 civil war, and many remained in the country after the war even taking Bosnian citizenship.

After intelligence reports suggested they were indoctrinating local youths to radical Islam and operating terrorist training camps, the authorities revoked the citizenship of close to 400 individuals, but failed to extradite them to their home countries as prescribed by law.

Lajcak has wide arbitrary powers, including firing local officials and imposing laws if local politicians can't agree on them. Lajcak reportedly told Sadovic he has to choose between losing his post or extraditing Abu Hamza by "respecting letter and spirit of the law".

Outrage of the day: Saudi mosques 'not facing Mecca'

I say they should be demolished.

Riyadh, 27 July (AKI) - Many Saudi imams have discovered that the direction of Mecca indicated to the faithful in their mosques is off-course.

Thanks to the images provided by Google Earth, some Saudi scientists have been able to monitor the main mosques in the kingdom, discovering that many of them have the qibla (the niche in the wall indicating the direction of Mecca) placed incorrectly.

According to Saudi researcher Abelaziz al-Ghamidi, quoted by the daily 'al-Watan', in the area of al-Baha alone 15 mosques have been identified where the qibla does not correspond correctly to the direction of Mecca, the most holy site in Islam.

Iran: Feminists face flogging

Tehran, 26 July (AKI) - The trials of 31 feminists arrested on 3 March for having organised a sit-in in front of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran have resumed in the capital. The womens' rights activists are this time being tried individually and accused collectively of "seditious meeting" and "plotting against state security".

The first ten have been given jail terms of between six months and five years, of whom three are also to be flogged.

Most of the women received suspended sentences.

Only one woman, Behareh Hedayat, remains in jail but not for her activities in defence of womens' rights, rather for her role in the executive of the students association of the Amir Kabir Polytechnic.

While being sentenced to jail for demanding sexual equality and equal rights in the Islamic Republic may be considered "normal" public flogging, a punishment to date reserved for political crimes, is not.

The last three feminists judged by the Revolutionary Court, Delaram Ali, Alieh Eghdam e Maryam Zia, as well as jail terms, were punished with 10, 20 and 10 lashes of the whip respectively. "This is an unprecedented and worrying development" commented Yousef Molaii, Maryam Zia's lawyer.

Iranian Nobel peace laureate, lawyer Shirin Ebadi, has appealed to the United Nations. In a letter to the UN Human Rights Commission she defined the public flogging of women demanding equal rights and protesting against polygamy as not only a violation of Human Rights but also an act of incivility.

Pakistan suicide bomb wave warning

It's Muslims killing Muslims in the name of Allah. You know, the merciful one.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (Reuters) -- Pakistani authorities warned more suicide bombers were stalking Islamabad, a day after 14 people were killed in a blast near a mosque regarded as a symbol of Islamist resistance to U.S. ally President Pervez Musharraf.

"I feel very insecure for myself, for my children and for my city. I never thought my city would be like this," Fareha Ansar, a former high school principal, said on Saturday, after the second suicide attack in the capital this month.

A wave of suicide attacks, roadside bombs and shootings have killed more than 180 people, in a militant campaign triggered by the storming of the Red Mosque in Islamabad earlier this month to crush a Taliban-style movement.

The government reopened the mosque this week, but trouble broke out on Friday as hundreds of followers of radical clerics briefly seized the mosque before being dispersed by police.

A suicide bomber, described as a bearded man in his 20s, struck at a nearby restaurant shortly afterwards.

The only extra police evident on Saturday were stationed around the now "indefinitely closed" Red Mosque, or Lal Masjid.

Part of the problem for security forces is that they are the main target for attacks. Eight of Friday's victims were police.

Police foiled a car bomb plot on Friday in Bannu, a city at the gateway to North Waziristan, a tribal region regarded as a hotbed of support for the Taliban and al Qaeda.

(IsraelNN.com) Israel's war against Lebanon last summer was part of an international conspiracy led by Washington to “destroy Lebanon,” Hizbullah terror chief Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech Saturday night. “Lebanon stood strong by itself against the interests of the whole world,” he said – with that interest dictated by Washington. “The G8 nations and even the Arab states wanted this war against us,” he said.

Nasrallah praised Hizbullah terrorists for their successes in hitting northern Israel with thousands of missiles, and said that the war was “one of the great moments of Islam in history.”
Speaking of which (this from August 5, 2006 - the very time of the described great moment):
Prime Minister Fuad Saniora repeatedly broke into tears as he disclosed the latest attack during opening remarks at a meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Beirut. He appealed to fellow Arab states to help a nation "stunned" by a nearly four-week Israeli onslaught that has devastated Lebanon's infrastructure and left hundreds of civilians dead.

Apartheid fence

And it must be removed. Where the hell are the "activist" from the International Solidarity Movement when they are needed?

One of the main reasons Palestinians hate checkpoints and call them illegal

(JPost) IDF soldiers caught a Palestinian trying to cross Chawara checkpoint with two bombs Saturday evening.

According to reports, the man had in his possession two pipe bombs and two improvised grenades. IDF sappers destroyed the devices in controlled explosions.

The Palestinian was transferred to security forces for further interrogation.

Saudi turns his back on jihad: "There is no jihad. We are just instruments of death"

Ahmed al-ShayeaRIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- The last time Ahmed al-Shayea was in the news, he was in the hospital at the Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, being treated for severe burns from the truck bomb he had driven into the Iraqi capital on Christmas Day, 2004.

Today, he says, he has changed his mind about waging jihad, or holy war, and wants other young Muslims to know it. He wants them to see his disfigured face and fingerless hands, to hear how he was tricked into driving the truck on a fatal mission, to believe his contrition over having put his family through the agony of believing he was dead.

At 22, the new Ahmed Al-Shayea is the product of a concerted Saudi government effort to counter the ideology that nurtured the 9/11 hijackers and that has lured Saudis in droves to the Iraq insurgency. The deprogramming, similar to efforts carried out in Egypt and Yemen, is built on reason, enticements and lengthy talks with psychiatrists, Muslim clerics and sociologists.
That would require the Saudi government to drop the Wahhabi ideology they have been so aggressively exporting to Europe and the US. But dropping it would be considered an apostasy.
The kingdom still has a way to go in cracking the jihadist mind-set. Most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, and Saudis make up nearly half of the foreign detainees held in Iraq, according to Mouwaffak al-Rubaie, Iraq's national security adviser. They number hundreds, he said this month following a visit to Saudi Arabia. Dozens more are fighting alongside al-Qaida-inspired militants at a Palestinian camp in Lebanon.

UN Human Rights Council slammed for attacking Israel

While Ban Ki-moon gets slammed by representatives of the worst abusers of human rights (Muslim countries) for pointing out that they ignore abuses around the world and target Israel instead.
(Israel Insider) An American congressional delagate to the United Nations, Norm Coleman, is urging the American government to halt funding for the UN Human Rights Council because of its disproportionate attacks on Israel and failure to investigate other countries.

"You've got countries like North Korea, Burma, Zimbabwe where you have state-sponsored brutality, and what we have is deafening silence," Coleman, also a Republican senator from Minnesota, said, according to Haaretz.

A U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee panel will review the Human Rights Council's performance at a hearing Thursday. Last month, the committee approved legislation Coleman proposed to cut off U.S. funding of the council.

Echoing Coleman's criticisms, Assistant Secretary of State Kristen Silverberg called the council's first year a serious disappointment. She reproached member states for abandoning their responsibility to defend suffering peoples in countries like Sudan, Burma, Zimbabwe, and Cuba and instead devoted their energies to attacking Israel.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon came under attack on Wednesday for joining the chorus of critics against the disproportionate condemnation and scrutiny of Israel. He remarked that Islamic countries in the UN Human Rights Council had ignored abuses around the world and targeted Israel instead.

The backdoor enforcement of the sharia in the US

School stops scheduling class time for Muslim prayer... but adds an additional lunch break which coincides with Muslim prayer time.
SAN DIEGO -- A San Diego school that drew international attention for setting aside time for Muslim students to pray in the classroom will no longer do so, it was reported Friday.

Instead, Carver Elementary's schedule will be reconfigured so students can say their required midday prayers during lunch. Courts have long upheld students' rights to pray on their own during lunch or recess, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

When the new school year begins, Carver will have two lunch periods, including one that will fall when Muslims typically say their midday prayer -- between 1 and 2 p.m., the newspaper reported.

Another controversial element of Carver's educational program geared toward Muslim students -- single-gender classes -- will be eliminated, the Union-Tribune reported.

Superintendent Carl Cohn stressed in a July 18 memo that single-gender education is legal under federal law, but at Carver it "has become a serious distraction from learning rather than a vehicle to promote learning," according to the newspaper.

Carver added the single-gender classes and a daily 15-minute in-class break for voluntary prayers last September after it absorbed a failed Arabic language charter school that served primarily Somali Muslims.

Since a substitute teacher publicly complained about Carver's practices in April, the San Diego Unified School District has been inundated by letters and phone calls from as far away as Europe and the United Arab Emirates, according to the Union-Tribune.

Some alleged that the school was violating the separation of church and state by giving Muslims time to pray. The district maintained that it is legally required to approve students' request for religious accommodation.

Enforcing sharia in the US: student arrested for desecrating Koran

I thought the separation of religion and state declared back in the 1700's. No one would be arrested for throwing the Bible or Torah in the toilet, would they? So why do Muslims get a special treatment?
NEW YORK (AP) A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Quran in a toilet at Pace University on two separate occasions, police said.

Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, both hate crimes, police said. It was unclear if he was a student at the school. A message left at the Shmulevich home was not immediately returned.

The Islamic holy book was found in a toilet at Pace's lower Manhattan campus by a teacher on Oct. 13. A student discovered another book in a toilet on Nov. 21, police said.

Muslim activists had called on Pace University to crack down on hate crimes after the incidents. As a result, the university said it would offer sensitivity training to its students.

The school was accused by Muslim students of not taking the incident seriously enough at first. Pace classified the first desecration of the holy book as an act of vandalism, but university officials later reversed themselves and referred the incident to the New York Police Department's hate crimes unit.

Poor Muslim terorrists

(England) Last Sunday convicted terrorist Hussein Osman returned to his British prison cell to find it on fire. Earlier this month another convicted terrorist Dhiren Barot, 34, was seriously burned when he was scalded with boiling oil and water.

Lawyers acting for suspected and convicted Islamic terrorists have already called for fanatics to be granted special status in jails as "Prisoners of War".

Last week the controversial solicitor Mudassar Arani, whose firm has been paid more than £1 million in legal aid to represent Terrorists, said her clients feel it is unfair that they must undergo frequent searches and curbs on meeting other imprisoned Terrorists.

Miss Arani, who claimed she was speaking on behalf of Barot, said: "Why should he suffer? Isn't it bad enough to have to serve your sentence? Why does he have to be placed in segregation? He asked me to mention prisoner of war status."

In fact, so concerned are British ministers about the welfare of Islamic terrorists incarcerated by the judicial system here in the UK, they are thinking along the lines of their own little prison in which all the inmates are Muslim.

Mind you, Prison Officers Association chairman Colin Moses couldn’t have put it better when he related to the BBC:
"Any terrorist is likely to be a victim in prison and we must remember that they too have families and often very strong beliefs."
Yup, Colin, I’m sure the families of the 52 people murdered in London and the 770 injured by the fellow cohorts of these so called victims of the British prison service share your sentiments in how these inhuman religious bigots get preferential treatment.

US readies arms deal with Saudis, eyeing Iran

(Washington) The United States is readying a major arms package for Saudi Arabia with an eye to countering a changing threat from Iran, a senior US defense official said.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is expected to discuss the US recommendations with the Saudis next week in a visit to the kingdom with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the official said Friday.

"We've been working very hard on the Saudi arms package, which we believe is critical to the overarching architecture that we believe we are going to need ... to deal with the changing strategic threat from Iran and other forces," the official said.

The Pentagon provided no details on the arms package, which will reportedly total 20 billion dollars over the next decade.

But administration officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it would include selling Saudi Arabia advanced weapons known as Joint Direct Attack Munitions, or JDAMs.

Meanwhile, the Boston Globe reported in March that it is believed to include air and missile defense systems, advanced early warning radar aircraft, and light coastal combat ships.

Giving Muslim doctors a bad name

(England) The president of the Islamic Medical Association is to face a disciplinary hearing after making a ferocious attack on gay people in Pulse, the magazine for GPs.

In the letter, Dr Muhammad Siddiq says that gays need “the stick of the law to put them on the right path and that they deserve neither help nor pity.

There is punishment and fine if you throw rubbish or filth in the streets. The gays are worse than the ordinary careless citizen,” wrote the GP, who is employed by the Walsall Primary Care Trust in the West Midlands, “They are causing the spread of disease with their irresponsible behaviour. They are the root of many sexually transmitted diseases. The letter went on to say that a depressed transsexual awaiting gender reassignment was "twisted."

Dr Siddiq denies that he authored the letter and claims his son was playing a "cynical spoof" on him by forcing him to sign the letter and sending it to Pulse, a magazine for GPs. When the magazine checked with Dr Siddiq, he made no effort to deny that these were his views. Allegedly, he has privately told his colleagues that he had actually written the letter.

Dr Michael Irwin, co-ordinator of the Secular Medical Forum commented: "If Dr. Muhammad Siddiq holds these views, he should not be allowed to work within the NHS. And, if he has a ‘private practice’, his patients should be made aware of his opinion, so that only those with a similar bigoted outlook would be likely to see him. [...]"

Sheikh's on a plane

(Italy) A packed British Airways flight from Italy was held up for nearly four hours after three Qatari princesses refused to sit next to men they did not know.

Dozens of British holidaymakers had to wait patiently while the three royals, who were returning from a day's shopping excursion to the Italian fashion centre of Milan, refused to take their seats.

Furious passengers on the flight whistled and clapped before the three women were escorted off and took another flight to London.

The incident began as passengers boarded flight 563 from Milan's Linate airport to Heathrow.

The women, all members of the oil-rich emir of Qatar's family, Bader Bin Khalifa Al Thani, were booked into business class along with the emir and an entourage of cooks and other staff.

However as passengers were fastening seat belts the women got up and refused to take their assigned seats as they were next to men they did not know.

Cabin crew tried to rearrange the seats but passengers travelling together refused to give up their allotted positions.

Eventually the captain was called in to try and mediate but after more than three hours of wrangling on the tarmac in scorching temperatures, he decided the best way forward was to offload the women.

Police and diplomats from the Qatar consulate in Milan were also called in. The Qatar party eventually left Milan for London on an Alitalia flight after free places were found for them in business class but the cooks and entourage were seated in economy.

New signs of Palestinian unity

(Ynet) Palestinian president for Fatah says he will change electoral rules next week to hamper Hamas' ability to win parliament majority in elections. Abbas welcomes new 'seriousness' in Israeli approach to negotiations, swears he will not speak to Hamas until they've 'apologized to the Palestinian people'. [...]
In the related news:
About 3,000 rifles transferred to Jericho on Thursday, as part of plans to bolster Palestinian security organizations; three more trucks arrive in Ramallah on Friday.

The great Palestinian downfall

"Palestinian national movement faces deep crisis over Fatah-Hamas rift". Isn't that a shame...
(Ynet) Wakseh – this is the new political term prevalent on the Palestinian street.

Following the Nakba (the 1948 defeat and the State of Israel's establishment) and the Naksa (the 1967 defeat), the Palestinian split and the disconnection from the Gaza Strip are being referred to as "Wakseh". The word means humiliation, ruin, and collapse as a result of self-inflicted damage.

The term expresses the great downfall of the Palestinian national movement and Palestine's division into two ideological camps – the national camp and the Islamic camp.

The latest term, Wakseh, joins a series of political terms that have been etched into the collective Palestinian conscience and memory. In the Arab tradition, Wakseh is worse than Naksa because it is not caused by an external enemy, but rather, constitutes a self-inflicted wound that is almost akin to suicide.

In national terms, the Wakseh has brought Palestinians to one of the worst low points in their history. The Palestinian national movement has regressed 50 years to the reality of 1948-1967. It is back to a period of Palestinian geographical dispersal in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian diaspora in Arab countries, an era of national disintegration and focus on a daily struggle for personal survival.
And as the term "Wakseh" points out, all of the above is entirely self-inflicted.

Round 2 at the Islamabad's Red Mosque

Blast Near Islamabad's Red Mosque Kills 4.
SLAMABAD, Pakistan — A large explosion went off in a hotel near Islamabad's Red Mosque on Friday, killing at least four people and injuring 30 others, police said. Television footage showed burned and bloodied victims.

Amir Mehmood, a witness, said the blast went off inside the Muzaffar Hotel at a market area about half a quarter mile from the mosque, where religious students clashed earlier in the day with security forces.

He said he saw blood, body parts, and shreds of Punjab police uniform inside the hotel.

An official at the Islamabad police control room said at least four people were confirmed killed in the blast, including one police officer. At least 30 people were injured.

Geo television showed footage of bystanders and police carrying at least six victims — many bleeding, or badly burned and with their clothes in tatters — out of the wreckage of a damaged building and piling them into ambulances.

At least one person appeared to be dead.

Police said they were investigating, and that the cause of the blast was not immediately known.

The blast occurred soon after police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters who had occupied the Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, which had reopened after a bloody army siege ended two weeks ago, leaving more than 100 dead.

Pope's private secretary warns of Islamization of Europe

(AP) Pope Benedict XVI's private secretary warned of the Islamization of Europe and stressed the need for the continent's Christian roots not to be ignored, in comments released Thursday.

"Attempts to Islamize the west cannot be denied," Monsignor Georg Gaenswein was quoted as saying in an advance copy of the weekly Sueddeutsche Magazin to be published Friday.

"The danger for the identity of Europe that is connected with it should not be ignored out of a wrongly understood respectfulness," the magazine quoted him as saying.

Gaenswein also defended a speech Benedict gave last year linking Islam and violence, saying it was an attempt by the pontiff to "act against a certain naivety."

Muslims around the world protested against Bendict's speech, with churches set ablaze in the West Bank and a hard-line Iranian cleric saying the pope was united with US President George W. Bush to "repeat the Crusades."

An Italian nun was also gunned down in a Somali hospital where she worked, and the Vatican expressed concern that the attack was related to reaction to the pope's remarks.

Recently, the influential archbishop of Cologne, Joachim Meisner, said in a widely-publicized interview on Deutschlandfunk radio that the "immigration of Muslims has created a breach in our German, European culture."

Italian lawmakers propose Imam registry

To rephrase Robert A. Heinlein's Lazarus Long, "Any mullah or imam must be presumed guilty until proved innocent".
(Rome) Three Italian lawmakers proposed creating a national registry of Muslim clerics with no criminal past to weed out fundamentalist imams.

The parliamentarians presented a draft bill and justified their action in part by pointing to last weekend's arrest of a Muslim cleric accused of running a "terrorism school" at his mosque in Perugia, central Italy. Police have put another imam preaching in the region under investigation.

"This relationship between imam and the public sphere creates the obligation to have transparency given today's political and international situation," said Khaled Fouad Allam, with the centre-left Daisy party.

"We're asking those (imams). . . to register themselves if they meet certain criteria."

While joining the registry would not be obligatory, the text of the draft law presented to reporters said imams who did join would be authorised by the state to engage in cultural mediation, teach languages and provide spiritual assistance to jailed Muslims.

In return, imams would need to make their finances public, said Marcello Pera, a senator with the centre-right opposition Forza Italia party and one of the bill's sponsors.

The Religion of Peace™ is on the move in Italy

A mosque was used as a terrorist training school and as a terror planning and bomb making facility. Who would've thought of that...
(ANSA) - Perugia, July 23 - Italian forensic experts are set to start testing chemicals seized at a Perugia mosque suspected of terrorist activity.

Police arrested the imam of the mosque, Mostapha El Korchi, and two other Moroccan assistants on Saturday.

Among the chemicals seized were fertilisers, household chemicals, an anti-rust acid, a laxative and sleep medicine which police said could be mixed to make bombs.

They also seized films and computer files they said were used for combat training. Police said El Korchi had downloaded bomb-making manuals.

Maps with several northern cities including Milan circled were seized along with several photos of El Korchi arriving at Rome's Fiumicino Airport and maps showing aqueducts in the region around Perugia, Umbria.

Police said Monday the three men arrested had not carried out "specific, potential criminal actions" against the sites identified in the Perugia probe.

But they said "significant evidence" had emerged from other material seized. El Korchi had been under surveillance for months with police tracking his Internet activity and recording public sermons in favour of jihad or holy war, police said.

The dawn raid on the mosque and reports of alleged terror plans alarmed Italy, which has not experienced the sort of Islamist militant attacks suffered by Britain and Spain.

Sunday newspapers described the mosque as a 'terror school' and said al-Qaida militants were "ready to strike".

In signs of a backlash, right-wing politicians called for the closure of Italian mosques until they were checked for illegal activity.

NASA reports sabotage of space computer

(AP) A space program worker deliberately damaged a computer that is supposed to fly aboard shuttle Endeavour in less than two weeks, an act of sabotage that was caught before the equipment was loaded onto the spaceship, NASA said Thursday.

The unidentified employee, who works for a NASA subcontractor, cut wires inside the computer that is supposed to be delivered to the international space station by Endeavour, officials said.

The space agency declined to speculate on a motive.

The computer is supposed to measure the strain on a space station beam and relay the information to flight controllers on Earth.

The damage would have posed no danger to either shuttle or station astronauts, said Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA's space operations chief.

The worker also damaged a similar computer that was not meant to fly in space, Gerstenmaier said.

Gerstenmaier did not identify the subcontractor or where the damage took place. The subcontractor notified NASA 1 1/2 weeks ago about the matter, as soon as it discovered the damage to the non-flying computer.

NASA immediately checked the computer at the Kennedy Space Center and discovered the additional damage. Officials would have caught the problem through testing before flight, even if the subcontractor had not alerted NASA beforehand, Gerstenmaier said.

"The damage is very obvious. It's easy to detect. It's not a mystery to us," he said.

From the Hamas trial in Dallas (July 26, 2007)

First Government witness links the charity to jihad.
(DMN) An expert on Hamas testifying in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial told jurors Wednesday that the Palestinian militant group encourages financial support of jihad, or holy war, to further its goals in the Middle East.

"If Muslims can't go and fight, they should donate to the cause and fund someone else who will do it," said Matthew Levitt, a prosecution witness explaining "economic jihad," one of the ideals in the Hamas charter written when the group was formed in 1987.

Government prosecutors say the Richardson-based Holy Land charity was key in helping Hamas achieve its aim.

Dr. Levitt, an expert on Jewish and Islamic extremism who also served as a terrorism intelligence analyst for the FBI and the U.S. Treasury Department, was the first to testify in the largest terrorism financing case in U.S. history. It is expected to last at least three months and to include testimony from Israeli secret agents about evidence their government uncovered about Holy Land's activities overseas. [...]

Prosecutors contend that money raised in the U.S. by Holy Land – often through fiery fundamentalist fundraisers throughout the country – enabled Hamas' military wing to divert money for use in suicide bombings. [...]

"It's not difficult to spot a Hamas charity" in the Middle East, he said. They "tend to be decorated with posters of suicide bombers and they give away suicide bomber trading cards, key chains."

"The zakat committees are Hamas' most effective tool, period," he added. "They build grass-roots support for the group. Hamas is more likely to get your vote if you're getting their financial support."

That goal of Hamas is clear, explained Dr. Levitt.

"Hamas seeks to establish an Islamic Palestinian state in all of Israel, Gaza and the West Bank," he said.

Children of the Red Mosque

Infected with the deadly virus of radical Islam.
ISLAMABAD: Hameeda Sarfraz, 19, lively eyes sparkling out of a black burka, was describing the boons of the afterlife.

"In heaven you get everything without hardship," said Sarfraz, daughter of a bus driver. "In heaven, if a martyr feels hungry, food appears, the best quality food, and you won't even know where it came from."

Sarfraz, an alumna of the now bullet-ridden Jamia Hafsa Islamic school for girls, said she deeply regretted missing her chance to be a martyr. She fled through the back door of the school July 3, just hours after a gun battle began between Pakistani special forces and militants holed up in the neighboring Red Mosque, the parent institution of Jamia Hafsa.

Sentiments like hers are the fruits of a radical Islam that has blossomed in this country - not just in the lawless tribal areas that American intelligence officials describe as an enduring sanctuary for Al Qaeda but in its capital, in a mosque and school compound that until recently enjoyed the blessings of the state.

The young adherents present a portrait of adolescent passion that one might find anywhere, except that they are Pakistani girls mostly from poor rural families and their passion is directed against the government of President Pervez Musharraf. Some among Jamia Hafsa's alumnae say they still wish to die in the cause of militant Islam.

Schools giving Muslims special treatment

The Muslim Students' Association has formed a task force to push for foot baths and prayer rooms at universities and colleges nationwide.

Muslims also push for non-Muslims to observe Muslim rules in the prayer areas.
(USA Today) Some public schools and universities are granting Muslim requests for prayer times, prayer rooms and ritual foot baths, prompting a debate on whether Islam is being given preferential treatment over other religions.

The University of Michigan at Dearborn is planning to build foot baths for Muslim students who wash their feet before prayer. An elementary school in San Diego created an extra recess period for Muslim pupils to pray.

At George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., Muslim students using a "meditation space" laid out Muslim prayer rugs and separated men and women in accordance with their Islamic beliefs.

Critics see a double standard and an organized attempt to push public conformance with Islamic law.

"What (school officials) are doing … is to give Muslim students religious benefits that they do not give any other religion right now," says Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel at the Thomas More Law Center, an advocacy group for Christians.

[...]

At the forefront of the movement is the Muslim Students' Association, which has formed a Muslim Accommodations Task Force to push for foot baths and prayer rooms. At least 17 universities have foot baths built or under construction, including Boston University, George Washington University and Temple University, and at least nine universities have prayer rooms for "Muslim students only," including Stanford, Emory and the University of Virginia, according to the MSA's website. The association did not return calls seeking comment.

Zuhdi Jasser, a Muslim and chairman of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, which promotes separation of mosque and state, says he is concerned about the accommodations. "Unusual accommodations for one faith at the cost of everybody else doesn't fall on the side of pluralism," he said.

At George Mason University, non-Muslim students were asked to observe Muslim rules in the prayer area, such as keeping men on one side and women on the other and removing their shoes, according to Broadside, the school newspaper. Alissa Karton, assistant to the vice president for student life, said the article prompted the school to order students to roll up prayer rugs when not in use and move the dividers.

The University of Michigan agreed to install foot baths after talks with the MSA, said Terry Gallagher, director of public relations at the campus. Some Muslims ritually wash their feet before praying five times a day.

Daniel Pipes, founder of the Middle East Forum, a conservative think tank, sees the requests as part of a movement to force the public to acquiesce to Islamic law.

"The goal of Islamists is the application of Islamic law," Pipes says.

Unindicted co-conspirator leads new push for the cut and run bill

The same unindicted co-conspirator who originally voted for the resolution authorizing the use of military force in Iraq, then suddenly became an anti-war activist, who's been repeatedly stabbing our troops in the back, who, without any investigation, accused US Marines of "cold blooded murder", and when it turned out that they were innocent, didn't even think about an apology.
(AP) House Democrats have drafted new Iraq legislation they hope will appeal to Republicans fed up with the war: Start withdrawing troops in two months but leave it up to President Bush to decide when to complete the pullout.

The vote will come next week, as members take up a $460 billion bill covering military spending for 2008. Another vote could come again in September, after Iraq commander Gen. David Petraeus delivers a long-anticipated assessment on the war and Congress considers a $142 billion measure needed to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"This is big time," Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said of the upcoming fall debate. "When you get to September, this is history. This is when we're going to have a real confrontation with the president trying to work things out."

The House has passed similar anti-war measures in the past, but has been unable to push the legislation through the Senate, where Democrats hold a slimmer majority and Republicans have routinely blocked such bills from advancing.

Most recently, the House approved legislation that would have required troop withdrawals to begin this November and finish by April 1.

Under his latest plan, Murtha said he envisions troop withdrawals to start in November and take about a year to complete. A draft of his proposal did not include a firm end date.

Palestinian Terrorists Display Two-Stage Rocket

From Strategy Page:
July 25, 2007: A Palestinian terrorist organization (the al Quds Brigades) in the Gaza strip has displayed pictures of what it describes as a two stage, unguided rocket, made in Gaza, with a range of 20 kilometers. If true, this rocket, the "Quds 5" could reach the Israeli city of Ashkelon. With a population of 100,000, and 55 square kilometers in size, Ashkelon provides the densest target yet for Palestinian rockets fired from Gaza. Al Quds says they have several dozen of these new rockets, and have tested them over the last few months. The rocket is ten feet long, 250mm (ten inches) in diameter, weighs 90 pounds and carries a 16 pound warhead. Hamas had earlier said it was building a new, longer range, rocket that could reach Ashkelon. Al Quds said they had foreign (probably Iranian) assistance in designing and building their rocket. Ashkelon has been hit a few times in the last few months. Using a two stage design increases the risk of failure quite a bit, although it allows you to build a much lighter rocket. All other rockets with that range are single stage designs.

Abbas orders raids on Hamas mosques

RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Authority has confronted Hamas-controlled mosques in the West Bank.

Islamic sources said Palestinian security forces, under orders from PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, have raided Hamas mosques and arrested clerics and suspected Islamic opponents in several cities in the West Bank. The sources said PA commanders have warned clerics not to use their mosques for political sermons.

The crackdown was said to have been conducted by the PA Preventive Security Apparatus, the most powerful agency in the West Bank, Middle East Newsline reported. The sources said PSA officers visited mosques and warned Hamas clerics against discussing Israel or the United States in Friday sermons, the most well-attended during the week.

The seizures at airports in San Diego, Milwaukee, Houston and Baltimore included "wires, switches, pipes or tubes, cell phone components and dense clay-like substances," including block cheese, the bulletin said. "The unusual nature and increase in number of these improvised items raise concern." [...]

The four seizures were described this way:
  • San Diego, July 7. A U.S. person - either a citizen or a foreigner legally here - checked baggage containing two ice packs covered in duct tape. The ice packs had clay inside them rather than the normal blue gel.

  • Milwaukee, June 4. A U.S. person's carryon baggage contained wire coil wrapped around a possible initiator, an electrical switch, batteries, three tubes and two blocks of cheese. The bulletin said block cheese has a consistency similar to some explosives.

  • Houston, Nov. 8, 2006. A U.S. person's checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a 9-volt battery, wires, a block of brown clay-like minerals and pipes.

  • Baltimore, Sept. 16, 2006. A couple's checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a block of processed cheese taped to another plastic bag holding a cellular phone charger.
This is no game. This is CLEARLY a preparation for a massive terrorist attack.

Congress to Protect Citizens Who Report 'Flying Imams'-Type Suspicions

Thanks to the "Lieberman-GOP coalition" and despite the Democrat opposition to the provision.
WASHINGTON — After nearly a week of intense, behind-the-scenes wrangling, congressional negotiators late Tuesday agreed to include in the pending Sept. 11 security bill sweeping liability protections for citizens who report to authorities suspicious activity they fear might be linked to terrorism.

The "John Doe Protections" provision is meant to address the so-called "Flying Imams" case wherein six Muslim clerics in March sued passengers aboard a U.S. Airways flight because the passengers reported them to authorities, leading to their detention. The clerics were later cleared but their lawsuit, many lawmakers feared, would discourage future vigilance among the flying public.

The Sept. 11 security bill is a top Democratic priority and Republicans fought hard to include the passenger immunity protection, creating common cause with Connecticut Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, chairman of the conference committee that is knitting together the House and Senate bills.

House Democrats, led by Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, sought changes in the immunity language but were ultimately overwhelmed by the Lieberman-GOP coalition on the conference committee.

"This is a huge win—a hard-fought victory for House Republicans and, more importantly, for the American people," said Rep. Peter King, the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee. "In a post-9/11 reality, vigilance is essential to security. Despite the Democratic opposition to this important homeland security measure, I’m thrilled to announce that common sense has prevailed and heroic Americans who report suspicious activity will be protected from frivolous lawsuits."

The legislation is designed to implement currently unfulfilled security recommendations made by the 9/11 commission. The bill is now expected to swiftly pass the House and Senate and be signed into law by President Bush.

Feds tie yet another Dearborn Muslim charity to terror

The charity is accused of being a front group for Hezbollah.
DEARBORN -- The U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday declared a Dearborn-based charity a front for the terrorist organization Hezbollah as FBI agents shut the group's offices and carted away boxes of records.

FBI agents raided the offices of Goodwill Charitable Organization Inc. on West Warren Avenue near Schaefer Road. They also raided the nearby offices of the Al-Mabarrat Charitable Organization on Schaefer, though the Treasury Department did not designate Al-Mabarrat as a Hezbollah front, and the FBI allowed its offices to remain open.

Nobody was arrested or charged at either charity and area Muslim leaders urged the public not to rush to judgment.

The FBI in Detroit has used a strategy of fighting terrorism by attacking terrorists' suspected funding sources and Tuesday's move against Goodwill Charitable Organization is part of that effort.

Breaking News: Evacuation Ordered as Liquid Gas Canisters Explode Near Downtown Dallas

KWTX.com (July 25, 2007) — A series of explosions at an acetylene facility Wednesday morning near downtown Dallas sent balls of flame as high as 300 feet into the sky Wednesday morning.

Individual canisters of the gas rocketed into the air as they exploded and landed on nearby highways.

At least two injuries were reported, but information about the nature and severity wasn’t immediately available.

The facility is near the intersection of Interstate 30 and Interstate 35 across from reunion arena.

Traffic was backing up as authorities shut down a number of major highways in the area.

Update: FOX News (DALLAS) — A series of large explosions sent a shower of flaming debris on nearby freeways and buildings near downtown Dallas Wednesday in what has become a three-alarm blaze, officials said.

The explosions occurred at a gas vendor at 500 S. Industrial Blvd. and Interstate 35-E in the Trinity River bottoms, fire officials said.

"It's snowing ash," one eyewitness told FOX affiliate KDFW-TV. "It's unbelievable."

The station reported that two people were taken to a local hospital for the treatment of burns and breathing problems.

Video footage showed numerous small fires burning in the area as the blasts continued. There were stacks of gas cylinders on fire that continued to catch fire and explode. [...]

Protecting terrorists and trial lawyers

The Washington Times exposes House Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson's (Democrat from Mississippi) maneuvers to deny our citizens protection when reporting suspicious activity.
Something very September 10 is happening to the September 11 commission bill. Thanks to behind-the-scenes maneuvers by congressional Democrats, people who dial 1-800 "REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY" hotlines could soon be sued for racial and religious profiling. House Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, has been flipping and flopping all over on this issue, no doubt dodging trial lawyers here and an angry Council on American-Islamic Relations there. It's time for Mr. Thompson and other Democratic leaders to pick a side. If they fail to get fully behind tipster immunity, they will richly deserve their "weak on security" label. Average citizens must be assured that their good-faith tips on suspicious activity will not land them in court. Anything less utterly undermines the efficacy of tip lines. We can't think of a bigger disincentive to do the right thing.

The flopping has truly been egregious. In March, to audible boos on the House floor, Mr. Thompson called a tipster-immunity measure proposed by Rep. Peter King, New York Republican a path to profiling. When this newspaper criticized those remarks two months ago, Mr. Thompson seemed to change views. He wrote us a letter to the editor stating that he would support a similar tipster-immunity measure along the lines of a proposal made by Sens. Joe Lieberman, Susan Collins and Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, asserting that there were major differences between the King measure and this latest one. There weren't, but no matter, we said at the time; we were simply pleased that the House Homeland-Security Committee chairman had finally seen the light. It seemed like great news.

We should have been more skeptical. This week and last, Mr. Thompson and friends have again been objecting to tipster immunity, once more characterizing it as "profiling." But this time, it is the Lieberman-Collins-Pearce measure which they oppose. That's the very same measure which Mr. Thompson credited in this newspaper on May 16 for not "run[ning] roughshod over legal remedies that are and should be in place," encouraging his colleagues to get behind such legislation. But this week they want to create loopholes to permit suing at the state and local level and to require someone to be able to show that the suspicious behavior they reported is related to terrorism, not simply criminal activity. Mr. Thompson and Company also want to throw out retroactivity, which means that the November U.S. Airways "John Does" who reported the questionable behavior of a group of imams would not be protected from frivolous lawsuits.

This series of errors would be comical if the consequences were not potentially tragic. This is a sign of the Democratic Party's subservience to the trial-lawyer lobby and the anti-antiterrorism left, consisting of groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations, who are the only kind of people who could possibly support this terrible idea. These Democrats stand ready to gut the efficacy of tip lines so that trial lawyers can feast on the frightened U.S. Airways tipsters, and so that CAIR can prevail under a phony civil-liberties guise. This isn't what voters asked for last November. No person who finds him or herself in the shoes of the heroic tipster who foiled May's Fort Dix terror plot should risk a lawsuit for doing the right thing.

Arab League delegation visits Israel, brings same old "peace plan"

JERUSALEM - The foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan began a historic visit to Israel on Wednesday to formally present an Arab peace plan, saying they were extending "a hand of peace" on behalf of the region.

The ministers arrived as representatives of the Arab League, the first time the 22-member group has sent a delegation to the Jewish state. The Arab League peace plan envisions full recognition of Israel in return for evacuation of lands captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

"We are extending a hand of peace on behalf of the whole region to you, and we hope that we will be able to create the momentum needed to resume fruitful and productive negotiations" between Israel and the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world, Jordan's foreign minister, Abdul-Ilah Khatib, said at a news conference with Israeli President Shimon Peres.

What does their "peace plan" say, if anything, about the Palestinians' "legitimate right for resistance"?

What does their "peace plan" say, if anything, about Hamas' charter calling for annihilation of Israel?

How does "Palestine from the river to the sea" fit into their "peace plan"?

What does their "peace plan" say, if anything, about Hezbollah, which is part of the Lebanese government, and its continues war on Israel?

What does their "peace plan" say, if anything, about Iranian regime's claim to "wipe Israel off the map"?

Why do they want Israel to go back to the '67 borders if they didn't like them back in 1967? What has changed since then? Why do they want Israel to return territories captured in 1967 as a consequence of the Arab war of aggression?

What does their "peace plan" say, if anything, about the "right of return"?

Hypothetical questions: Suppose Israel accepts the proposal. Will the destruction of Israel stop being preached in mosque sermons throughout Muslim world? Will Palestinians stop teaching their children to kill Israelis?

... And I have many more questions like these.

Taliban Kill One South Korean Hostage

KABUL, AfghanistanA purported Taliban spokesman said Wednesday that one of the 23 South Korean hostages being held in Afghanistan had been killed, according to the Reuters news agency.

Earlier, Aari Yousef Ahmadi, who claims to speak for the militants, said the Afghan government hadn't responded to any of its demands and that the militants would kill "a few" of the hostages.

The South Korean hostages, including 18 women, were kidnapped last Thursday while riding a bus through Ghazni province on the Kabul-Kandahar highway, Afghanistan's main thoroughfare.

South Korean negotiators have traveled to Ghazni province to take part in the negotiations. Three previous deadlines for the hostages' lives have passed with no consequences.

Surprise, surprise... Hezbollah blames Israel for attacks on UN peacekeepers

Now this is a breath of fresh air. It's not like Arabs have been known to kill the Infidel and blame it on Israel or something. Neither would they lie. Ever.
BEIRUT, Lebanon: Militant Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah suggested Tuesday that Israel may be behind two recent bomb attacks that targeted United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.

[...]

In an interview Tuesday on the pan-Arab Al-Jazeera television, Nasrallah said that while it was possible that al-Qaida or other extremist groups were behind the attacks, Israel could also be the culprit.

"Why not Israel?" Nasrallah said, adding that "Israel has an interest in attacking UNIFIL with the aim of transforming the force into a multinational force under Chapter 7."

He was referring to a section of the U.N. Charter that empowers a U.N. force to suppress threats to international peace and security — reflecting what could be his perception that Israel hopes to see U.N. troops actively moving against Hezbollah guerrillas in the future.

He also suggested Israel may want UNIFIL out of Lebanon, in case of another Israel-Hezbollah war.

Pseudo-Indian pseudo-intellectual plagiarist fired

BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Colorado Board of Regents on Tuesday fired Ward Churchill, the professor whose remarks likening some Sept. 11 victims to Nazi Adolf Eichmann provoked national outrage and led to an investigation of research misconduct.

Ward Churchill

Churchill vowed to sue after the 8-1 vote was announced, saying: "New game, new game."

CU President Hank Brown said "the decision was really pretty basic" based on the school's findings of plagiarism, falsification and other infractions involving work unrelated to Churchill's remarks on the Sept. 11 victims. Brown said the school had little choice but to fire Churchill to protect the integrity of the university's research.

"The individual did not express regret, did not apologize, did not indicate a willingness to refrain from this type of falsification in the future," Brown said.

"Do you, at an institution that has a fundamental role in basic research for our society, accept the continued presence of someone who shows a pattern of wanting to continue to falsify research?" Brown said.

Part II of the Palestinian civil war coming soon?

From Ynet:
Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal had recently warned Fatah against underestimating Hamas' strength in the West Bank.

A statement issued by Hamas a few days ago warned the Palestinian Authority that the organization was "losing patience" with the mass arrests of its members.

About a month ago, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree banning the bearing of arms by those unauthorized to do so.

Jimmy Carter reincarnated

WASHINGTON - Barack [Hussein] Obama's offer to meet without precondition with leaders of renegade nations such as Cuba, North Korea and Iran touched off a war of words, with rival Hillary Rodham Clinton calling him naive and Obama linking her to President Bush's diplomacy.

Older politicians in both parties questioned the wisdom of such a course, while Obama's supporters characterized it as a repudiation of Bush policies of refusing to engage with certain adversaries.

[...]

In Monday's debate from Charleston, S.C., Obama was asked by a questioner via YouTube if he would be willing to meet — without precondition — in the first year of his presidency with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea.

"I would," he responded.
And that is in addition to his high tolerance for genocides.

Jailing Race hate thugs unfair say Muslims

(England) The other week the British courts jailed tweedle dee, tweedle dum and tweedle dummer for inciting racial hatred at a protest outside the Danish Embassy at around 6 years an idiot. This was reported in detail by Watcher at the time.

It now transpires that Muslim leaders are outraged (nothing new there) over the length of the sentences handed down. One such Islamic spokesman, ‘Gulfraz Nawaz’, secretary of Derby's Jamia Mosque, likened Javed's chant to those of football fans.

Really, here is the football chant for the Baggies (West Bromwich Albion):

“"Albion till we die,
We're Albion till we die,
We're blue and white the Wolves are sh*te,
We're Albion till we die."

Which is not too dissimilar from the vast majority of football chants heard around the UK on any Saturday.

Meanwhile, the village idiots whom the Muslims of Derby are bitching about, was caught on film repeatedly chanting
"Bomb, bomb Denmark, bomb, bomb USA" and "Jihad is the path to Allah, UK you will pay," said Abu Musab al-Zarqawi "would be coming back," and "7/7 on its way!"
Big difference.

However, to the blood thirsty Muslim world, he is an innocent.

Until the Muslim world starts to accept that there are ugly people within its midst, the current situation between East and West will continue for a very long time.

Suspicious U-Haul Truck Reported at Dallas Courthouse Where Hamas Case Is on Docket

Maybe it's nothing but...

DALLAS Authorities are investigating reports of a suspicious U-Haul truck at the Earle Cabell Federal Building in Dallas where opening statements are scheduled in a case against alleged Hamas fundraisers.

Prosecutors are set to spell out their case today against leaders of a Muslim charity that federal officials say funneled millions of dollars to the Middle Eastern militant group Hamas.

The trial in federal district court in Dallas caps an investigation into the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development that lasted more than a decade and spanned half the world. [...]

The injustice of Guantanamo Bay (according to the media)

(Pakistan) An Islamic militant leader, wanted for kidnapping two Chinese engineers in Pakistan in 2004, has blown himself up to avoid arrest, Pakistan police say. Abdullah Mehsud, who spent 25 months in custody at the US base in Guantanamo Bay, died in south-western Balochistan province, a police spokesman said.

Mehsud, whose real name was Noor Alam, was a Pashtun, the same ethnic group as the Taleban of Afghanistan.

He fought for the Taleban against the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.

Pakistan interior ministry spokesman Javed Cheema told the AFP news agency that Mehsud blew himself up with a hand grenade after soldiers raided a hideout in Zhob district of south-western Balochistan. "Abdullah Mehsud blew himself up with a grenade and died when security forces raided his hideout. Three of his accomplices were arrested," he said.

A local police official Atta Mohammed told the Associated Press news agency that no military personnel were wounded by the explosion. Mehsud was wanted for kidnapping two Chinese engineers, one of whom was killed, in South Waziristan in 2004.

To all the liberal do-gooders who cry out for human rights for the terrorists locked up in Guantanamo Bay. I just want to ask, what do you have to say about this zero who returned to a life of murder and was killed after getting released by the Yanks? I mean, according to your lot, he was wrongly incarcerated.

Al-Qaeda faces rebellion from the ranks

Sickened by the group’s barbarity, Iraqi insurgents are giving information to coalition forces.

This is an incredible news, exactly what Democrats are terrified of - that we will succeed in Iraq.
(Iraq) Fed up with being part of a group that cuts off a person’s face with piano wire to teach others a lesson, dozens of low-level members of al-Qaeda in Iraq are daring to become informants for the US military in a hostile Baghdad neighbourhood.

The ground-breaking move in Doura is part of a wider trend that has started in other al-Qaeda hotspots across the country and in which Sunni insurgent groups and tribal sheikhs have stood together with the coalition against the extremist movement.

“They are turning. We are talking to people who we believe have worked for al-Qaeda in Iraq and want to reconcile and have peace,” said Colonel Ricky Gibbs, commander of the 4th Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, which oversees the area.

The sewage-filled streets of Doura, a Sunni Arab enclave in south Baghdad, provide an ugly setting for what US commanders say is al-Qaeda’s last stronghold in the city. The secretive group, however, appears to be losing its grip as a “surge” of US troops in the neighbourhood – part of the latest effort by President Bush to end the chaos in Iraq – has resulted in scores of fighters being killed, captured or forced to flee.

“Al-Qaeda’s days are numbered and right now he is scrambling,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Stephen Michael, who commands a battalion of 700 troops in Doura.

A key factor is that local people and members of al-Qaeda itself have become sickened by the violence and are starting to rebel, Lieutenant-Colonel Michael said. “The people have got to deny them sanctuary and that is exactly what is happening.”

Al-Qaeda informants comprise largely members of the Doura network who found themselves either working with the group after the US-led invasion in March 2003, or signed up to earn extra cash because there were no other jobs going. Disgusted at the attacks and intimidation techniques used on friends, neighbours and even relatives, they are now increasingly looking for a way out, US officers say.

“It is only after al-Qaeda has become truly barbaric and done things like, to teach lessons to people, cut their face off with piano wire in front of their family and then murdered everybody except one child who told the tale afterwards . . . that people realise how much of a mess they are in,” Lieutenant James Danly, 31, who works on military intelligence in Doura, said.

It is impossible to corroborate the claims, but he said that scores of junior al-Qaeda in Iraq members there had become informants since May, including one low-level cell leader who gave vital information after his arrest.

“He gave us dates, places and names and who did what,” Lieutenant Danly said. When asked why he was being so forthcoming, the man said: “Because I am sick of it and I hate them, and I am done.”

Hezbollah Moves Rockets into Towns

(Lebanon) It appears the recent visit of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Damascus may have set the ball rolling for the much anticipated attack on Israel by the combined actions of Syria, Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas.
According to Israeli intelligence (as reported in the Guardian), Hezbollah has started moving its Katyusha rocket systems into towns. Of course the move of such weapon systems into highly populated areas will only aggravate the world's liberals (I’m looking at you, BBC) if the IDF strike back at those who prefer war to peace. Hopefully, I am wrong in the above assessment. (Hey, 1 death is 1 death too many for me) but you never know with the likes of the idiots who love to proclaim they are a Religion of Peace™ and the even bigger idiots who defend them.

However, the huge military build-up on the Syrian border with the Golan, the shipments of Iranian arms to Hamas, Hezbollah and Syria that since summer 2006 Syria has invested heavily in the mass production of thousands of rocket launchers, its procurement of state of the art anti–aircraft system from Russia (Shades of Yom Kippur) and the need to strike Israel before they get their Iron Cap anti Katyusha system on line (around 30 months time) and its Trophy Active Defense System retrofitted to all its armour, kind of points towards sooner rather than later for the Religion of Peace™ to strike.

May explain why so many Jews are moving to Germany.

Britain does not rule out military strike on Tehran

Looks like the Anglo-Saxons, whom Ahmadinejad has been threatening to destroy, are waking up and taking names.
(JPost) British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has not ruled out a military strike on Iran, the newly appointed premier told reporters in London on Monday.

"I believe that the economic sanctions imposed on Teheran will be effective, but I wouldn't… rule out action of a different kind," he said.

In his first interview from 10 Downing St., Brown expressed hope that the United Nations Security Council will approve additional sanctions on the Islamic republic in the near future.

Asked whether he would consider an offensive that would target Iran's nuclear program, Brown said that he "isn't one of those [people] who say they rule out this option."

However, Brown said that he still thought UN sanctions were effective. "Soon, a decision will be made regarding Iran and I believe that this path will continue to be efficient," said Brown.

"The UK will do all that is necessary to strengthen these sanctions," said the prime minister.

Survey: Most Iranians oppose regime

Many would endorse 'Velvet Revolution' or even foreign military intervention. I'll bet Jimmy Carter would call them "criminals" for opposing the totalitarian regime he is so proud to have helped created.
(WND) A new survey reveals that 92 percent of the subjects of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's totalitarian government do not believe their nation's role is positive, and two-thirds would support a "Velvet Revolution" to remove him from power.

The survey, by the Center For the Promotion of Democracy and Human Rights, found that almost six out of 10 Iranians would support a foreign military action for the purpose of taking Ahmadinejad out of the role as dictator.

"There is clearly a huge distinction between the Islamic Republic of Iran and its intentions as a regime and its people," reported Said Jabbari, a senior analyst with the center.

"As a totalitarian regime it does not represent the aspirations of the Iranian people," he said. "Don't use 'Iran' and 'this regime' to represent each other."

[...]

"We need to create such a huge distinction. We never referred to Nazis as Germans. We clearly wanted to create a distinction between Germans and Nazis," he said. In this instance, Jabbari said, "we need to turn around and say the Islamic Republic regime, and the Iranian people, have two different paths."

He noted that another recent survey, done by Terror Free Tomorrow, produced nearly the same results.

"Through both surveys, what comes out loud and clear is the fact that the people of Iran neither approve of their government's policies nor of its structure. Indeed in the CFPD poll 67 percent said they would support a 'Velvet Revolution' for the removal of the regime and 58 percent went as far as saying that they would support a foreign military action for the purpose of changing the regime," Jabbari said.

[...]

The CFPD study was developed with the advice of a long list of experts, and was done during the second quarter of 2007 by students hired inside Iran to ask the questions.

The results came from a random sampling of 600 responders from Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Shiraz and Mahabad, with the male-female ratio split 320-280. The respondents were equally divided among the following age groups: 20-30, 30-50, and over 50.

"Being proud and nationalistic, Iranians overwhelmingly want to have access to nuclear technology, including military nuclear technology," the study said. "But a plurality does not want the current regime to have the nuclear bomb and does not trust its pronouncements to the effect that it is not pursuing such technology."

Iranians also oppose their government's support for Hamas and Hezbollah, and disagree with Ahmadinejad's expressed desire to eliminate Israel.

Among the questions, and their responses:
  • Should Iran possess nuclear technology? 78 percent yes. 18 percent no. 4 percent don't know.

  • Should Iran possess military nuclear technology? 72 percent yes. 8 percent no. 20 percent don't know.

  • Should Iran have the nuclear bomb? 46 percent yes. 47 percent no. 7 percent don't know.

  • Do you believe the Iranian government wants the nuclear bomb? 88 percent yes. 10 percent no. 2 percent don't know.

  • Will Western Europe accept a nuclear Iran? 52 percent yes. 47 percent no. 1 percent don't know.
"Perhaps the most important elements in both surveys were the implications they contained about attitudes towards the regime," Jabbari said. The TFT results show 61 percent opposed their current government, 79 percent said they wanted a democracy and "only 11 percent said they would strongly oppose having a political system in which all of their leaders, including the supreme leader are chosen by popular election."

"The CFPD survey went even further," Jabbari noted. "Fully 72 percent of Iranians said given the chance to go back they will not support an 'Islamic Revolution.' Sixty-seven percent do not consider the Islamic Republic to be a political system that satisfies the needs of the Iranian people."

He said 61 percent opposed the government's support for Hezbollah, 56 percent opposed support for Hamas, 70 percent did not advocate the destruction of Israel and two out of three disagreed with Ahmadinejad's claims casting doubt on the Holocaust.

Cinderfella awaits his Prince and glass slipper

(Gaza) Who stole the shoes of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh while he was attending Friday prayers in Gaza City?

This is the question that Hamas's security apparatus has been trying to answer since last Friday. The incident has embarrassed Hamas, whose leaders tried on Sunday to play down the case by claiming that the theft was the work of a child.

Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip accused Fatah leaders in Ramallah of exploiting the incident to defame Haniyeh. The shoes were stolen after Haniyeh and his entourage arrived at a mosque in Gaza City for Friday prayers. Ever since he was appointed prime minister, Haniyeh has been delivering Friday sermons in various mosques in the Gaza Strip. In line with Islamic tradition, worshipers are required to take off their shoes upon entering mosques.

Following the prayer, Haniyeh discovered that his shoes were missing. His nervous bodyguard immediately began searching for the missing shoes and all worshipers were required to remain inside the mosque until the search was over.

"It was a very embarrassing situation," said a Palestinian journalist who was present at the scene. "Hamas sent reinforcements to the area and a frantic search for the shoes began."

The shoes were discovered minutes later in the possession of a Palestinian child who admitted that he had stolen them, a Hamas official in the Gaza Strip told The Jerusalem Post.

Muslims chase Christians out of the Middle East

The world's most ancient Christian communities are fleeing their birthplace.
(Newsweek) He refused to leave Baghdad, even after the day last year when masked Sunni gunmen forced him and eight co-workers to line up against a wall and said, "Say your prayers." An Assyrian Christian, Rayid Albert closed his eyes and prayed to Jesus as the killers opened fire. He alone survived, shot seven times. But a month ago a note was left at his front door, warning, "You have three choices: change your religion, leave or pay the jeziya"--a tax on Christians levied by ancient Islamic rulers. It was signed "The Islamic Emirate of Iraq," a Qaeda pseudonym. That was the day Albert decided to get out immediately. He and the other 10 members of his household are now living as refugees in Kurdistan.

Across the lands of the Bible, Christians like Albert and his family are abandoning their homes. According to the World Council of Churches, the region's Christian population has plunged from 12 million to 2 million in the past 10 years. Lebanon, until recently a majority Christian country--the only one in the Mideast--has become two-thirds Muslim. The Greek Orthodox archbishop in Jerusalem, where only 12,000 Christians remain, is pleading with his followers not to leave. "We have to persevere," says Theodosios Atallah Hanna. "How can the land of Jesus Christ stay without Christians?" The proportion of Christians in Bethlehem, once 85 percent, is now 20 percent. Egypt's Coptic Christians, who trace the roots of their faith back to Saint Mark's preaching in the first century, used to account for 10 percent of their country's population. Now they've dwindled to an estimated 6 percent. "The flight of Christians out of these areas is similar to the hunt for Jews," says Magdi Allam, an Egyptian-Italian author and expert on Islam, himself a Muslim. "There is no better example of what will happen if this human tragedy in the Arab-Muslim world is allowed to continue."

Nowhere is the exodus more extreme than in Iraq.

Sunni vs. Shia, Nigerian style

(AFP) Five people were killed and scores of houses burnt in sectarian violence in the northern Nigerian city of Sokoto over the murder of a radical Sunni cleric, hospital sources and residents said Saturday.

"Four bodies were brought to the morgue yesterday. From what we learnt they were victims of the religious clashes in the city," Sabo Bello, a nurse at Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital, told AFP.

A city resident Shehu Malam said he saw another person being burnt to death in his house. "The man was set ablaze with his house."

[...]

Violence broke out in the city following the murder of Umar Dan-Maishiyya by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.

The Sunni cleric was shot in the head while leaving a mosque after preaching. The predominantly Sunni population claimed the attack was planned by the minority Shia sect.

Relations deteriorated between the two rival sects following violent clashes over the right to worship in the city's central mosque in 2005.

The murdered cleric was said to have spearheaded the attack against the Shiites during the 2005 clashes. He was arrested and released just two months ago.

Northern Nigeria is a majority Muslim region, although large Christian minorities have settled in the main towns. Since 1999 and the return of a civilian regime, 12 northern states have introduced Islamic Sharia law.

Chinese missiles smuggled through Iran into Iraq

BAGHDAD (XFN-ASIA) - The US military said its troops had found Chinese-made missiles which they believe were smuggled into Iraq by groups in Iran in order to arm groups fighting US-led forces.

'We have seen ordnance and weapons that come from other places, but we assess that they have come through Iran,' Agence France-Presse quoted US military spokesman Admiral Mark Fox as saying.

'There are missiles that are actually manufactured in China that we assess come through Iran as well.'

Fox also alleged Iranian agents continue to smuggle Iranian made armor piercing bombs -- explosively-formed penetrators (EFPs) -- to Iraqi extremist groups across the country's long border.

The US military has repeatedly accused Iranian linked groups of training Iraqi extremists in the use of EFPs.

Since May 2004, when the EFPs emerged on the Iraqi battlefield, more than 200 US soldiers have been killed by these bombs which fire a fist-sized chunk of molten metal that can cut through even a heavily armored vehicle.

Tehran denies being behind any weapons smuggling, but Fox insisted that weapons seized by Iraqi and US forces are clearly of Iranian manufacture.

B. Hussein Obama: Genocide? Well, that's too bad

Like most Democrats, Obama doesn't have a problem with genocides.
SUNAPEE, N.H. - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Thursday the United States cannot use its military to solve humanitarian problems and that preventing a potential genocide in Iraq isn't a good enough reason to keep U.S. forces there.

"Well, look, if that's the criteria by which we are making decisions on the deployment of U.S. forces, then by that argument you would have 300,000 troops in the Congo right now - where millions have been slaughtered as a consequence of ethnic strife - which we haven't done," Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Fatah Terrorists Refuse to End Violence

Even though the White House and the UN insist that "Palestinian people" want to live "side by side with Israel in peace and security."
(IsraelNN.com) Leaders of the Martyr Abu Amar Brigades, a branch of Fatah, said Sunday that they would not turn in their weapons or renounce violence. Members of Fatah’s Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades promised to stop engaging in terrorist activity one week ago in exchange for a promise that they would not be arrested or assassinated.

Abu Amar Brigades spokesman Abu Mohammed said that the group’s terrorists “should automatically be immune to pursuit” because it was their “legitimate right” to attack Israelis. He confirmed that the group remains loyal to Fatah and will obey Fatah decisions.

Turkey's ruling Islamist party wins elections

And Turkey really, really want to become a part of the EU.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - Turkey's Islamic-rooted ruling party won parliamentary elections Sunday, taking at least 331 of 550 seats despite warnings from the secular opposition that the government was a threat to secular traditions.

The state-run Anatolia news agency said the ruling Justice and Development Party had won with 85 percent of the votes counted. Two secular parties, the Republican People's Party and the Nationalist Action Party, won 124 seats and 76 seats respectively, Anatolia said. Independents won 19 seats.

Ruling party supporters gathered in front of their Istanbul branch office, clapping, dancing and waving flags depicting the party symbol, a light bulb. In Ankara, the capital, a jubilant crowd of several hundred whooped as they watched election results on a big television screen erected outside party headquarters. [...]

“Jihad Bee” Calls for Child Martyrs on Hamas TV

While the UN and Bush keep telling us that "Palestinian people" want to live "side by side with Israel in peace and security."

(IsraelNN.com) Arab children in Gaza, like their peers around the world, enjoy watching television programs with cartoon like characters. However, in Hamas-controlled Gaza, Palestinian Media Watch reports that the seemingly cute and loveable cartoon-like characters do not promote kindness and friendship, rather they continue to systematically indoctrinate Arab children to maim and murder Jewish men women and children and to take part in the destruction of the Jewish State.

The latest character on the children’s show Tomorrow’s Pioneers on Hamas’s Al-Aqsa television station is Nahool the Bee, who encourages young children to follow “[the path] of Jihad” and to become “Jihad warriors” in order to “liberate Al-Aqsa from the filth of the criminal Jews.”

“Jihad Bee” also teaches children that “Jews are enemies of Allah”:

Sure sounds like they do want to live "side by side with Israel in peace and security."

French PM: We'll Never Be Healed of the Holocaust

(IsraelNN.com) French Prime Minister François Fillon urged French youth to always remember the ''indelible guilt'' of the French people who collaborated with the Nazis, during a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the roundup of thousands of Jews in the Vel d’Hiv, or Winter Velodrome, in 1942.

"We will never be healed of the Holocaust," he said Sunday in a speech at the Square of Jewish Martyrs in Paris. The annual ceremony was attended by Holocaust victims, political personalities and youths.

Addressing the youth, Fillon said: "65 years ago, members of the Vichy government, civil servant collaborators, stained their hands with a full and indelible guilt. Their guilt is not yours, their shame is not yours but the horror of their acts must become yours, a disgust which must move your hearts as it moved ours."

White House would consider direct assaults in Pakistan

(WaPo) Frances Townsend, the White House homeland security adviser, signaled today that the Bush administration would consider direct assaults on al-Qaeda hideouts in Pakistan.

Townsend was asked on "Fox News Sunday" why the United States isn't sending Special Forces, attack drones and anything else it can to wipe out al-Qaeda. She replied, "Just because we don't speak about things publicly doesn't mean we're not doing many of the things you're talking about."

She added, "Job number one is to protect the American people, and there are no options that are off the table."

Three sisters stabbed to death in Gaza in suspected "honor killing"

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip: Three sisters were found stabbed to death in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, raising suspicion they were killed by relatives because of suspected immoral behavior, a human rights organization said.

The three sisters, 16-year-old Nahed Hija and her sisters, 19-year-old Suha and 22-year-old Lina, were found dead from multiple stab wounds, buried in a shallow grave in the central Gaza Strip early Sunday morning, said Hamdi Shakkour of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights.

Shakkour said they suspected the women were victims of "honor crimes," in which women are murdered by male relatives because of suspected intimate relations — not necessarily sex — outside of marriage.

The Hamas force that polices the Gaza Strip said in a statement it was investigating the deaths.

Honor killings are practiced throughout the Arab world. At least 12 women were killed for honor crimes in the West Bank and Gaza Strip last year, but this is the first time three sisters were murdered together.

In February, three unrelated woman were killed within a 24-hour period in the Gaza Strip.

At the time, there were concerns that vigilante moral groups were behind the killings.

The Palestinian judiciary does not take "honor crimes" seriously, Shakkour said. Perpetrators of "honor crimes" are often given light sentences of a few years, while others convicted of murder under other circumstances are sentenced to death.

Citizen Marine Awarded Silver Star

Jeff Hunter[...] Originally an administrative clerk at Albuquerque-based Delta Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, Hunter deployed to Iraq as an infantry fire team leader with Columbus, Ohio-based Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, in March 2005.

In the early hours of May 25, then-Cpl. Hunter set out on foot with Lima Company toward Haditha's market district in the opening days of Operation New Market.

According to Hunter, the company planned to arrive at the market by sunrise in order to catch insurgents by surprise. He said the trip seemed like any other, until a Marine shot a stray dog that had charged him. About ten seconds later, "all hell broke loose," Hunter said.

The award citation released by the Corps and interviews with Hunter and his fellow Marines reveal the platoon was ambushed by small arms fire that seriously wounded an officer on the patrol. Sgt. David Wimberg, Hunter's squad leader, ordered the squad to take a house to their left, where they were receiving fire. [...]

The Nazi party of Great Britian’s plans for the future

(Guardian) The Nazi party of Great Britain (The BNP) has made plans for the future of the survival of its senior staff by buying up land in which to build a bolt hole in Croatia.

Allow me to put this news in perspective.

The British National Party which on its 2005 election manifesto had the following:

Withdrawal from the European Union

The BNP stands for a British national economy

We demand the right to be proud of Britain again

is making plans to build its foundation-like settlement 1000 miles away in another country.

Hey, nothing is wrong with the above. But you’d presume that the people promoting such a pro-British agenda would stick by Britain through thick and thin. You’d think that they would build their bolt hole in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland or even the Isle of Man in which to sit out the coming Armageddon which they feel is going to hit the earth when the world’s pil supplies run out. Instead, they are going to up sticks and move to the Balkans.

I just hope they do it sooner rather than later.

The MCB shows its real face

(England) After the Friday the 13th attack on an jailed Al Qaeda terrorist inside a British prison by another inmate, the British version of CAIR, the so called Muslim council of Britain, issued a statement demanding a thorough investigation on this incident.

Which is strange as the MCB kept very quiet about ‘Dhiren Barot’ when he was arrested, judged by his peers and jailed. In fact, so quiet is the MCB on ‘Dhiren Barot’, if you run a search on the MCB website you will find no evidence of him whatsoever. This is the way of Muslims the world over. They play the victim card for all they can to the liberals and do-gooders in our societies yet remain very silent on the thugs who give Islam a bad name. In fact, the unelected MCB which claims to represent the Muslims of Great Britain (Council indeed) has the following title on their website on the honour killing of Banaz Mahmod. The poor Kurdish girl who on leaving her abusive arranged husband was at first subjected to 3 hours of rape and torture then murdered on the orders of her family:

Letter to the Editor of Daily Times on Unfortunate Banaz Murder

Unfortunate? Isn’t that what happens when you get a puncture, when you get caught in the rain or even when you miss your bus. But classifying the horrific murder of a young girl as unfortunate is just so typically systematic of how Muslims refuse to acknowledge the medieval ugliness that is still allowed under the mores of Islam.

Taliban Claims to Kill German Hostages

And I am sure they did it in the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful, just as all the murders are being committed by the followers of the Religion of Peace™.
(AP) A purported Taliban spokesman said the militant group shot and killed one of two German hostages on Saturday and that the other German would be killed within hours unless Germany announced its troops would leave Afghanistan.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the German was shot at 12:05 p.m. and that the other would be killed at 1 p.m. without the announcement. Ahmadi made no mention of at least 18 hostages from South Korea also held by the hardline militia.

"The Germans haven't said they would pull out their troops from Afghanistan, that's why the Taliban's high commanders decided to kill the German," Ahmadi told The Associated Press by satellite phone from an unknown location.

BBC berates American Christians but shows compassion for Pakistani Muslim extrimists

One only needs to read these two articles - “Must the US president believe in God?” and “'I hoped to be a glorious martyr'”.

The first one analyzes the survivability of the presidential hopefuls in the US.

The second one plainly quotes from the interview with a young Pakistani woman who survived the siege of the Red Mosque and is very upset about seeing Korans burning and being denied to die for Allah.

While the first one is clearly of a berating nature, in the second one, though it is a straightforward, no comment print of selected quotes from the interview, you can feel how sympathetic its nameless author is to the feelings of this poor Muslim extremist.

School for Al Qaeda terrorists closed down in Italy

(Perugia) Italian police have arrested three men suspected of running a "school of terror" in the city of Perugia and are searching for a fourth suspects. The three men, all Moroccan, were accused of running the school in a mosque, and included the mosque's imam. Police said they found evidence of in-depth training in explosives and poisons, and instructions on flying a Boeing 747 airliner.

Police say the suspects were running an "in-depth operation of instruction and training in the use of weapons and combat techniques suitable for terrorist acts".

Officers found chemicals - including acids and cyanide - in the mosque's cellar, officials said.

Friday the 13th unlucky for some

(England) An al-Qaeda plotter who planned to kill thousands of people in the UK and US in "dirty bombings" has been badly injured in an attack by fellow prison inmates.

Dhiren Barot, 35, from London, had been serving life at HMP Frankland near Durham.

When he was attacked with boiling oil and water, Barot's lawyer said a fellow inmate had thrown boiling water over the Indian-born terrorist's back, leading to a punch up, on Friday July 13.

Later, while Barot was nursing his wounds, another convict poured boiling oil over his head, the lawyer, Muddassar Arani said.

It seems the prison population of Great Britiain understand how terrorists need to be treated.

Bush alters rules for CIA interrogations

WASHINGTON - President Bush signed an executive order Friday prohibiting cruel and inhuman treatment, including humiliation or denigration of religious beliefs, in the detention and interrogation of terrorism suspects.

The White House declined to say whether the CIA currently has a detention and interrogation program, but said that if it did it must adhere to the guidelines outlined in the executive order. The order targets captured al-Qaida terrorists who have information on attack plans or the whereabouts of the group's senior leaders.

"Last September, the president explained how the CIA's program had disrupted attacks and saved lives, and that it must continue on a sound legal footing," White House press secretary Tony Snow said. "The president has insisted on clear legal standards so that CIA officers involved in this essential work are not placed in jeopardy for doing their job -- and keeping America safe from attacks."

[...]

The White House did not detail what types of interrogation procedures would be allowed. But it did offer parameters, saying any conditions of confinement and interrogation practices could not include:
  • Torture or other acts of violence serious enough to be considered comparable to murder, torture, mutilation and cruel or inhuman treatment.

  • Willful or outrageous acts of personal abuse done to humiliate or degrade someone in a way so serious that any reasonable person would "deem the acts to be beyond the bounds of human decency, such as sexual or sexually indecent acts undertaken for the purpose of humiliation, forcing the individual to perform sexual acts or to pose sexually, threatening the individual with sexual mutilation.

  • Acts intended to denigrate the religion, religious practices, or religious objects of an individual.

I wonder if there are any rules for using pork and porcine products in the interrogation techniques, and if so, I hope they weren't included into the inhuman category.

Democrats cut 'John Doe' provision

They really are on the mission to destroy this country. Instead of protecting it, as the government is obligated to do by the Constitution, they undermine it every which way.
(July 19, 2007) Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leaders.

"This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists," said Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Republicans wanted the provision included in final legislation, crafted yesterday during a House and Senate conference committee, that will implement final recommendations from the September 11 commission.

Mr. King and Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, sponsored the provision after a group of Muslim imams filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against US Airways and unknown "John Doe" passengers. The imams were removed from US Airways Flight 300 on Nov. 20 after fellow passengers on the Minneapolis-to-Phoenix flight complained about the imams' suspicious behavior.

On March 27, the House approved the "John Doe" amendment on a 304-121 vote.

"Democrats are trying to find any technical excuse to keep immunity out of the language of the bill to protect citizens, who in good faith, report suspicious activity to police or law enforcement," Mr. King said. "I don't see how you can have a homeland security bill without protecting people who come forward to report suspicious activity."

While the conference is not likely to meet again, Mr. King noted the conference report has not been written and says he will continue discussions with Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent and chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, to insert the "John Doe" language.

BREAKING: Feds Seize Rocket Launcher At A Home Near Newark Airport

Weapon Found On Jersey City Lawn, In Flight Path Of Newark Airport.
(CBS) A Jersey City woman made a shocking discovery on her lawn this morning when she noticed a military rocket launcher lying in the grass.

Niranjana Besai was leaving her house, located at 88 Nelson Street, to go to work just after 8 this morning when she spotted the launcher on her front lawn. "I read it and it [said] 'missile,'" Besai told CBS 2 HD. "There was little 'missile' [writing] on it."

She immediately called police.

Sources tell CBS 2 HD that the device is the type used to shoot shoulder-fired rockets and is capable of taking down an aircraft.

What's more troubling, sources add, is that Besai's house is located along flight path for Newark Liberty International Airport.

Besai's neighbor, Joe Quinn, saw her pointing at the equipment from her front porch. When he walked over to see what the fuss was about, he was just as shocked to see the six-foot-long weapon.

"She's pointing that there's something in the front," he told CBS 2 HD. "I said, 'Let me come down and take a look,' and I saw a little soldier on it and I said, 'Whoa, that's a missile launcher or something!'"

Quinn says he originally thought the launcher was just a pipe, but after noticing the picture of the soldier, he realized it looked similar to a missile launcher he'd seen on television.
Update: Rocket launcher 'harmless,' feds say
An empty military rocket launcher found on the front lawn of a Jersey City residence today caused a brief scare today, before federal authorities determined the device was inoperable and harmless.

U.S. Army ordinance experts are now trying to track down the serial numbers on the device to determine its origin.

According to the FBI, the launcher was the empty holder for an AT-4 anti-tank weapon - a one-shot rocket-propelled projectile used by the infantry to destroy or disable armored vehicles. The launcher is discarded after use.

FBI spokesman Sean Quinn said the launcher found by a homeowner in front of her house was essentially an empty tube.

"There was no threat," he said.

Palestinians in Gaza appeal for MORE aid

... while Hamas is busy spending on weapons and explosives.
GAZA (Reuters) - Children raced to help parents collect food from U.N. aid distribution centers in the Gaza Strip as women sat in the shade near trucks, waiting for their names to be called to receive their food rations.

The enclave's isolation has deepened since the Islamist Hamas group routed their Western-backed rivals to seize control last month. Israel, effectively at war with Hamas, has sealed off key border crossings, stifling trade and forcing thousands of Palestinians to seek handouts from U.N. aid bodies.

The U.N. aid agency for Palestinian refugees says that up to 825,000 of Gaza's 1.5 million inhabitants, classed as refugees, currently receive food rations, and the U.N. World Food Program aids a further 200,000 people.

As U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon prepared to meet fellow members of the Quartet of mediators in Lisbon on Thursday, Palestinians urged the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to widen its program to feed more people.

"We now have only God and then UNRWA," said Ahmed al-Jammal, a father of five, inside an aid centre in Gaza City. "We have no other source of income," he said as he received sacks of flour and rice and bottles of cooking oil.

'Rectify injustice'

It's long overdue to show the truth about other refugees of 1948 - Jewish refugees from Arab countries.
NEW YORK - Former justice minister Irwin Cotler and other Canadian scholars presented the U.S. Congress yesterday with its first testimony on Jews driven from Arab lands following Israel's creation in 1948.

The group was among experts helping U.S. lawmakers decide on a pair of bills that would oblige the Bush administration to actively oppose the Arab-led practice in Middle East peace efforts to speak only of Palestinian refugees.

While key Arab voices continue to push for a "right of return" for descendants of some 600,000 Palestinians whose pre-1948 homes are now inside Israel, the general discourse for decades has all but ignored tens of thousands of Jews, Christians and other minorities who were similarly turned into refugees.

"The time has come to rectify this historical injustice," Mr. Cotler told members of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus in Washington in a written statement. He argued the United Nations, where Arab countries have mustered majority backing from Muslim and developing states to pass 101 resolutions speaking only of Palestinian refugees, bears "express responsibility for the distorted narrative."

Mr. Cotler is considered a leading expert on the issue, having helped produce in 2003 a study titled Jewish Refugees from Arab Countries: The Case for Rights and Redress.

Co-authored by fellow Canadian Stan Urman, who also gave testimony in Washington, the study spoke of new evidence Arab states reacted to the creation of Israel by orchestrating the persecution of their Jewish citizens.

"Today, we cannot allow a second injustice, namely for the international community to recognize rights for [only] one victim population," Mr. Urman, executive director of New York-based Justice for Jews from Arab Countries, said.

Pentagon: Hillary Boosts Enemy Propaganda

It's about time someone makes her accountable for what she says and does.
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon told Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton that her questions about how the U.S. plans to eventually withdraw from Iraq boosts enemy propaganda.

In a stinging rebuke to a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Undersecretary of Defense Eric Edelman responded to questions Clinton raised in May in which she urged the Pentagon to start planning now for the withdrawal of American forces.

A copy of Edelman's response, dated July 16, was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.

"Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia," Edelman wrote.

He added that "such talk understandably unnerves the very same Iraqi allies we are asking to assume enormous personal risks."

Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines called Edelman's answer "at once outrageous and dangerous," and said the senator would respond to his boss, Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Clinton has privately and publicly pushed Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Peter Pace two months ago to begin drafting the plans for what she said will be a complicated withdrawal of troops, trucks and equipment.

Raped, tortured, honor-killed for two hours

(Daily Mail) Horrific details have been revealed of the last hours of the young Kurdish woman murdered by her family for falling in love with the wrong man.

Banaz Mahmod, 20, was brutally raped and stamped on during a two-hour ordeal before being garotted.

One of her killers, the Old Bailey was told, was 30-year-old Mohamad Hama, who had been recruited by Banaz's father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari, 51.

Both were found guilty of murder last month.

The shocking details of the killing came to light when Hama was secretly recorded talking to a friend in prison.

He admitted "slapping" and "f***ing" Banaz, who was subjected to degrading sex acts.

Hama and his friend were heard laughing as he described how she was killed in her family home in Mitcham, South London, with Ari Mahmod "supervising".

The murderers - two other suspects have fled to Iraq - had been told Banaz would be on her own.

Hama is recorded as saying: "Ari (the uncle) said there is no one there. There was someone there, Biza (her sister). The bastard lied to us."

He said of the murder: "I swear to God it took him more than two hours. Her soul and her life would not leave."

Banaz was garotted for five minutes, said Hama, but it took another half an hour for her to die.

Even the left in England are sick of her.

(Guardian) Even the American left's netroots are getting tired of Cindy Sheehan. It's a shame it took them so long.

Sheehan, the epic narcissist who became the face of the anti-war movement, has been banned from posting any further entries on Daily Kos, arguably the most influential of all liberal blogs in the US. The Kossacks have pulled the plug on Sheehan because of her threat to challenge the speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, for her congressional seat.

Sheehan has said she will decide on July 23 whether to go ahead with her attempt to oust Pelosi - who is, incidentally, about as liberal as congressional Democrats get - from her San Francisco district. "Democrats and Americans feel betrayed by the Democratic leadership," Sheehan recently proclaimed with her customary certitude.

As most people know, Sheehan came to prominence in summer 2005 when she set up camp outside President Bush's Texas ranch. She demanded to meet the president to discuss the death of her son, army specialist Casey Sheehan. He was killed in Iraq in April 2004. It would be inhumane not to feel sympathy for Cindy Sheehan's loss. But it would also be softheaded to ignore the numerous inconsistencies, self-aggrandisements and missteps that have characterized her behaviour.

Sheehan's initial demands to meet Bush, and her escalating criticisms of him, had a peculiar genesis. Sheehan in fact had already met Bush before she rolled up to the ranch. Interviewed by a local newspaper after the early encounter, she restrained herself to rather mild criticisms of the war's conduct. Of Bush himself, she said he was "sincere" about wanting freedom for the Iraqi people. "I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss," she added.

That seems a rather circumspect judgment on a man she would later denounce as "the Fuhrer" and the biggest terrorist in the world.

Less than two months ago, Sheehan announced her "resignation" from the anti-war movement. "I am finished working in, or outside of this system," she wrote. She told the Associated Press: "When we come back, it definitely won't be with the peace movement with marches, with rallies and with protests." She is currently in the middle of a march.A more sinister example of Sheehan's slipperiness came back in 2005. A row erupted over an email in Sheehan's name which contained remarks that, even taking the most forgiving possible interpretation, were suggestive of anti-Semitism. The best reporting on the furore came on Slate, and it hardly coved Sheehan in glory.

Party of Surrender

(NY Post) July 19, 2007 -- Despite the theatrics of their all-night Capitol Hill boogie with the sand man Tuesday, Senate Democrats failed again yesterday to legislate an unconditional U.S. surrender in Iraq.

The Dems couldn't muster enough votes to force action on their measure, which would require troop withdrawals in 120 days, to be completed by April 30.

Good thing, too. America has yet to hear from Gen. David Petraeus, who's heading the troop surge in Iraq and who'll report on it in September.

And, by many accounts, that effort is showing definite signs of success.

Yesterday, in fact, officials announced the capture of the highest-ranking Iraqi leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Khaled Abdul-Fattah Dawoud Mahmoud al-Mashhadani.

And Gen. Peter Pace, outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, declared that "a sea change" is taking place "in many places here," in terms of security.

But despite having voted to confirm Petraeus - and to give him until September to show achievements - Dems have no interest now in what he has to say.

Indeed, their amendment yesterday, in effect, would've declared Petraeus' mission over - only weeks after it first reached full troop levels.

Carl Levin"Why wait?" asked Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) - a sure sign, notes Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, that the Dems will simply ignore Petraeus. "They are not going to be convinced by whatever the facts are," said McConnell.

So the Democrats are reduced to staging what they themselves admit was little more than a political stunt - the all-night "debate," complete with cots and cold pizza - for the cameras.

Besides ignoring the steadily improving news from Iraq, Democrats also refuse to come to grips with the most important consequence of their efforts to force a precipitous U.S. withdrawal: What would happen in Iraq if America leaves?

Just this week, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon - in a sharp departure from his predecessor - cautioned that "any abrupt withdrawal or decision [by U.S. forces] may lead to further deterioration of the situation in Iraq."

And Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of Coalition forces south of Baghdad, warned that a premature U.S. withdrawal would "find the enemy regaining ground, reestablishing sanctuary . . . and the violence would escalate."

The Democrats, in short, refuse to learn the lessons of a generation ago - when they forced a U.S. president's hand in Southeast Asia and cut off funding to America's allies. The result was a bloodbath in South Vietnam and on the killing fields in Cambodia.

Democrats have declared the war unwinnable and decided that America has no strategic interest in remaining in Iraq - even as Mashhadani confirmed a "clear connection" between his Iraqi-based group and "al Qaeda senior leadership outside Iraq."

They should instead heed the warning of Gen. Pace, the nation's highest-ranking military official. "The bottom line," he said, "is that as long as our enemy is sworn to destroy our way of life, we are going to be in a war."

Update on the 4 British Muslims jailed

(London) Yesterday (18/07/07) 4 men were jailed for 6 years apiece for protesting outside the Danish embassy during Feb 2006 in a fashion which isn’t compatible with the democratic way of life enjoyed by people in the western world.

So I wasn’t surprised at how the supporters of these people held another protest outside the court in London in which to display their anger. Displaying posters and placards which prior to 9/11 would have generated nothing but empathy amongst the British Liberal classes for these poor persecuted Muslims.

Pictures courtesy of the Daily Mail and the Sun

What I am surprised at is how the Metropolitan police are now filming these religious idiots in which to garner evidence for possible further trials. Something which only a few years ago would have had the civil liberty groups in a fit. How the world has moved on.

UK: Medal for soldier who defied Taliban for four hours

Corporal John ThompsonAs the shrapnel and grenades rained down around him, Corporal John Thompson thought of only one thing - buying his men enough time to outflank the enemy.

He held the heavily-armed insurgents at bay for four hours while his men manoeuvred into position.

Cpl Thompson stood firm at the front of the 25-vehicle convoy, holding off the Taliban fighters with a machine-gun mounted on his Land Rover.

The noise burst his eardrums as he fired thousands of rounds - and kept yelling to his comrades to bring more.

It was a remarkable display of courage under fire which was yesterday rewarded with Britain's second-highest award for bravery, the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.

He is the 25th person to be awarded the Cross, which recognises individual acts of heroism.

[...]

His unit, J Company of 42 Commando, was in the thick of the combat in central Helmand.

It mounted constant patrols to take on the Taliban in remote countryside - trying to keep the fighting away from towns and villages to minimise civilian casualties.

Cpl Thompson's medal was the highest gallantry award given out in the latest round of operational honours for British forces around the world.

Marine Matthew Bispham from Preston in Lancashire was awarded the Military Cross for taking on insurgents in hand-to-hand fighting after seeing his friend Tom Curry, 21, shot dead.

The marines had sprinted across 50 yards of open ground under fire to clear an enemy compound.

Mr Bispham said: 'I had no choice but to carry on. I ended up a metre or so away from the insurgents. I was just lucky. He died. I didn't.'

A clutch of Military Crosses and Distinguished Flying Crosses were also awarded to soldiers involved in a daring attempt to rescue a wounded comrade left behind after a failed assault.

With no troop - carrying helicopters available, they clung to the outside of Apaches - which have no passenger seats - as they flew behind enemy lines. Pilots Captain Nicholas Barton, Warrant Officer Mark Rutherford and Staff Sgt Keith Armatage of 4 Regiment Army Air Corps were recognised for their bravery in the rescue attempt, along with Captain David Rigg of the Royal Engineers.

Bomb in southern Russia Muslim region wounds 10

NAZRAN, Russia - An explosion tore through a crowd of mourners at a cemetery in violence-plagued southern Russia on Wednesday, wounding at least 10 people, including four police officers, authorities said.

The funeral was for an ethnic Russian woman who had been fatally shot along with her two grown children Monday in Ingushetia, a mostly Muslim republic, in what authorities said may have been an ethnically motivated attack.

The funeral at the Russian cemetery in the settlement of Ordzhonikidze was halted and the site was cordoned off by police after the explosion, believed to have been caused by a homemade bomb, the district police said.

State-run Channel One television showed dramatic footage of the blast erupting amid a half-dozen mourners walking in the cemetery, throwing some to the ground. People screamed and hid behind low iron fences surrounding graves, and a man lay on the ground reaching out with his bloodied hand.

This ought to be good: Abbas plans new elections

RAMALLAH, West Bank - Eighteen months after his Fatah movement was trounced at the polls, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday that he will call new legislative elections in a move seen as seeking to further isolate the Islamic militants of Hamas.

Hamas said early elections would be illegal and warned they could lead to new violence. [...]

In a speech to the Palestine Central Council, Abbas denounced Hamas in the harshest terms, accusing the Islamic movement of staging "a coup" against him in the Gaza Strip and of provoking Israel and Egypt to seal Gaza's borders.

Hamas is "committing capital crimes, bloody crimes against our people every day, every minute, every hour," Abbas said. "There will be no dialogue until they return Gaza to what it was before."

"Even the devil cannot match their lies," he added.
I can hardly wait for the exit poll results followed by the signature bloodbath.
In five days of bloody fighting in mid-June, Hamas militiamen crushed Fatah gunmen and the presidential security force in the Gaza Strip.

FBI: Iraqis Being Smuggled Across the Rio Grande

And the Democrats are viciously against building of the wall on the border with Mexico.
(ABC) The FBI is investigating an alleged human smuggling operation based in Chaparral, N.M., that agents say is bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the Rio Grande from Mexico.

An FBI intelligence report distributed by the Washington, D.C. Joint Terrorism Task Force, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com, says the illegal ring has been bringing Iraqis across the border illegally for more than a year.

Border Patrol officials in the area said they were unaware of the specifics of the FBI's report, and federal prosecutors in New Mexico told ABCNews.com they had no current cases involving the illegal smuggling of Iraqis.

The FBI report, issued last week, says the smuggling organization "used to smuggle Mexicans, but decided to smuggle Iraqi or other Middle Eastern individuals because it was more lucrative." Each individual would be charged a fee of $20,000 to $25,000, according to the report.

Al-Qaida leader arrested in Iraq

Khaled Abdul-Fattah Dawoud Mahmoud al-MashhadaniBAGHDAD - The U.S. command announced on Wednesday the arrest of an al-Qaida leader it said served as the link between the organization's command in Iraq and Osama bin Laden's inner circle, enabling it to wield considerable influence over the Iraqi group.

The announcement was made as the White House steps up efforts to link the war in Iraq to the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, with a growing number of Americans opposing the Iraq conflict. Some independent analysts question the extent of al-Qaida's role in Iraq.

Khaled Abdul-Fattah Dawoud Mahmoud al-Mashhadani was the highest-ranking Iraqi in the al-Qaida in Iraq leadership when he was captured July 4 in Mosul, U.S. military spokesman Brig. Gen. Kevin Bergner said.

Bergner told reporters that al-Mashhadani carried messages from bin Laden, and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri, to the Egyptian-born head of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri.

"There is a clear connection between al-Qaida in Iraq and al-Qaida senior leadership outside Iraq," Bergner said.

Report: Christians crucified by Muslim terrorists in Iraq

I heard that Islam is a Religion of Peace™ and that Islamophobia is a baseless and very bad thing.
(WND) Christians in Iraq, including converts from Islam and people involved in mixed-faith marriages, are being crucified by Muslim terrorists, according to a Dutch member of Parliament studying the war-torn country.

Several Iraqi Christians "are nailed to a cross and their arms are tied up with ropes. The ropes are put on fire," Joel Voordewind told BosNewsLife, an online news agency focusing on Christians and Jews in difficult circumstances.

According to the site, Voordewind described how a person, who "survived" a crucifixion, "even showed holes in his hands," apparently from nails.

Voordewind said victims of the crucifixions are "in most cases Christian converts who abandoned Islam or people who, religiously speaking, are involved in mixed marriages."

UK: Four Muslims jailed over calls for murder and terrorism

But they only got 4 to 6 years.
(BBC) Four Muslim men have been jailed for their part in protests at the Danish embassy in London, against cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad.

Mizanur Rahman, 24, Umran Javed, 27, and Abdul Muhid, 24, were each jailed for six years for soliciting to murder after telling a crowd to bomb the UK.

A fourth man, Abdul Saleem, 32, was jailed for four years for stirring up racial hatred at the protest in 2006.

The men, from London and Birmingham, were convicted at the Old Bailey.

Judge Brian Barker said their words had been designed to encourage murder and terrorism. [...]

Rahman, from Palmers Green, north London, was filmed at the rally talking over a loudspeaker and calling for UK soldiers to be brought back from Iraq in body bags.

He said: "We want to see their blood running in the streets of Baghdad.

"We want to see the Mujahideen shoot down their planes the way we shoot down birds. We want to see their tanks burn in the way we burn their flags."

Javed, from Birmingham, was filmed by police shouting: "Bomb, bomb Denmark. Bomb, bomb USA."

Father-of-five and BT engineer Saleem was cleared of soliciting murder at his trial in February, but convicted of stirring up racial hatred.

Saleem, from Poplar, east London, chanted, "7/7 on its way" and "Europe, you will pay with your blood".

Finally, Abdul Muhid, 24, said to be the leader of the demonstration, chanted "Bomb, bomb the UK" and waved placards with slogans such as "Annihilate those who insult Islam". [...]

Israel: Arab MKs Angered by Jewish Land Law

(IsraelNN.com) The Knesset plenum passed a law, in a preliminary reading, that determines that Jewish National Fund (JNF) land can only be allocated to Jews. 64 Members of Knesset voted in favor of the law, 16 opposed it and one abstained.

The law was proposed by MKs Uri Ariel (National Union / NRP), Ze'ev Elkin (Kadima) and Moshe Cachlon (Likud). According to Elkin, "the law is intended to do historical justice and prevent crude judicial intervention by the Supreme Court, which tries to violate the basic covenant between the state and the JNF." The JNF holds 13% of Israel's land, comprising about 2.6 million dunams. Its budget is made up of donations from Jews living abroad.

While right wing MKs rejoiced over the law's passing, their Arab colleagues were fuming. MK Ahmed Tibi (Ra'am-Ta'al), a former adviser to Yasser Arafat, called it "institutionalized Jewish racism" while MK Jamal Zahalka of the Balad faction said the Knesset was "racing toward apartheid."
"Jewish racism" and "apartheid"? Just to refresh our memory, what does the Palestinian land law say about Palestinians selling land to the Jews?

Ah yes, "any Palestinian who aids, in any way, the acquisition or possession of land by an Israeli -- is guilty of treason. The land will pass automatically to the treasury of the Palestinian state, and the judgment on the Israeli holding the land or the Palestinian selling it -- death."
